McIntosh to Sit Out Mini-Camp

Rookie linebacker Roger "Rocky" McIntosh will undergo minor arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday and will sit out the June 16-18 mini-camp, the team has announced.
McIntosh is expected to be fully healthy by the start of training camp in late July, head coach Joe Gibbs said.

The 6-3, 237-pounder has been a daily participant in Organized Team Activity (OTAs) practices this offseason.
McIntosh opted to have the scope now so that there would be no lingering concern over the knee heading into training camp.
It's an unfortunate setback for the rookie because he had been impressing the coaches with his skills and work ethic during OTAs.
Once training camp starts, McIntosh is expected to be in the mix for playing time at weak-side linebacker, along with Warrick Holdman, Chris Clemons, Robert McCune and Khary Campbell.
McIntosh was the Redskins' second-round draft pick (35th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft.
In four seasons at the University of Miami, McIntosh started 26-of-46 games and recorded 266 tackles and 9.5 sacks. During his college career, he did not miss any significant time due to injuries.

I think we should be concerned. We traded up to get this guy and he's getting surgery now? Be it minor, a knee surgery is a knee surgery. Man...this gets me tense.

I've had 4 knee operations and I can tell you there is a big difference in what he's having done and what you probably think he is having.
Sometimes these guys have minor tears in cartilidge or sometimes just scar tissue from old injuries. They go in and clean it out and then get them working out.
I just had my ACL and meniscus done 3 weeks ago and I'm riding an excersize bike an hour a day not to mention doing 3 different workouts on strenthening my legs.
I'm not saying I'm an expert on this subject but I do have a bit of experience. I'm not worried. A lot of guys have this done and I'm happy he's doing it now instead of later...(Like in the season)

No, it's not. There's knee surgery, and then there's KNEE SURGERY. Range from a mild inconvenience to career ending. This sounds as if it's at the "mild inconvenience" end of the scale.
You can lose sleep over this if you want... I won't.

I've had "minor" knee surgery too (a minor tear in my cartilidge) and the bad news is -- when they remove cartlidge - it doesn't grow back. He's young, he should be fine. The good news is, he didn't have ligament damage. I don't believe Scouts worry about minor cartlidge repair when checking out college players -- they do worry about ligament issues.
LeVar had a lot of cartlidge loss and that's why he isn't coming back very well. I see his career ending sooner than later because of that.

So that you all feel comfortable, Lance Armstrong doesn't have cartilidge in his knees. He's doing fine.

I haven't had any knee surgery or KNEE SURGERY so I don't know the seriousness of this. All I know is that great players go down because of their knees, specially on Defense. I just hope this isn't the beginning of a trend.

Don't go for the dramatic. Your talking about Dante Culpepper/Carson Palmer type injuries or players who are past their prime and can't come back from the injuries. Don't forget that this guy is either 21 or 22. This is like cleaning your house for your first dinner party. You stress out but in the end, what was the big deal.
A lot of you won't understand and you'll overreact but really there is nothing to be worried about. Don't make something out of nothing. Hell, I know its the preseason but if you want to overreact go to the thread about Rothlisburger and his issue. Overreact about something else. We are ok and there is nothing to worry about. As many test that these guys take pre draft, Gibbs and Williams knew about this pre draft. Just relax and wait. We've got stars.

Didn't someone else have this done not too long ago? Its not a big deal. He wasn't going to start anyway. We all know it'll most likely be Holdman starting. A shocker would be for Clemons to start.

guess we'll just have to wait and see... hope this doesn't turn into a built in excuse during the season... when young players aren't playing in the regular season, they always like to point at time missed in camp as the reason...

You can make light of it, but Brandon Noble was only having his knee drained and he got MRSA in his knee.
Any procedure has risk. Infection is always one of them.

Again you've got to look at statistics. More guys get hurt at practice than with medical procedurs. Should we freak out about them hitting each other at practice.

Probably true, but they hit each other in practice a lot more often than they undergo surgery.
