Junior Seau

Just heard on ESPN that Junior Seau was talking with the Redskins.

Any thoughts?

I think it depends on the price. He is a little past his prime. Although, to this day, he is a physical specimen and has a great workout and diet regiment. Also, with G. Williams defensive schemes and packages, he might find a spot for Seau. I don't know, depends on the price.

BTW, if he does sign with the Skins, I'll bet the media spins it as Snyder trying to sign his childhood hero's, like they did with Deon and Bruce Smith.

I would be surprised considering all of the linebackers we already have and with the prescence of mind that the Skins were attempting to get younger at linebacker.

He wouldn't be a bad addition but I assumed Holdman was supposed to be our "older veteran" of the linebacking corps.

Only if he were brought in to compete w/ Holdman, would I agree w/ the signing. Also, the price tag needs to be Holdmanesque.

I would really hate to see Seau take the spot of a McCune, Campbell, Simon, Clemons, or even Havner. These guys have a lot of value as special teamers and possibly potential starters in the future. We shouldn't cast them aside for a guy in his late 30's.

We do probably need a place holder at OLB, while McIntosh adjusts to the pro game. If the guys we got now aren't up to it, why not bring in another guy to at least compete.

Doesn't make sense to me. As we stand now, I expect Simon & Havner to compete for the 7th LB spot. Both are good prospects.

I would welcome him with open arms. He is a great team leader and he is a big upgrade over Holdman.

I agree, but I can already hear the Snyder over-paying for used-to-be's, talk.

Seau wouldn't be bad if the price was right. His biggest asset would be teaching the younger players, I think.

if the price was right why wouldnt we get him.he would be great for the younger lbs now.plus he would not just be taking up an roster spot,he would actually be on the field.i think he can still contibute on the field.

We dont need him. Id rather give the job to someone young and talented. Im tired of getting someones sloppy 2nds and losing our young guys to other teams. The biggest gripe all players had/have with this organization is that they never get a chance to shine because we're constantly bringing in people past their prime.

awful old and injured for a linebacker... I did see him almost single-handedly destroy the Jets last year though...

if there is even any truth to this..

maybe gibbs sees holes in out LB corps and wants to bring in a vet to teach and lead...

i doubt it and i hope he never plays here but we arnt at OTAs.. maybe we need him

Right now we can have as many guys on the roster as we want, right? It might be limited to 80. I'm not sure, but if there is free room, why not bring in as many guys as you can to compete? If we can afford the signing bonus (if there even is one), I say bring him in and let him compete, then cut him if he can't make the team. He doesn't necessarily have to start.

JSPB is right. There's no harm in heading into camp with extra players. My question, though... Isn't Seau a Mike backer? If this is true, does it indicate a concern with Lemar?

I think there is a limit. Remember we had to cut a few players when we signed a bunch od UDFA'a. I would rather see us go with younger guys.

Hed be an awsome addition. He wont start but I am sure hes alot better than Holdman. I would love to see Roger Macintosh start Seau just might be the right guy to groom our young Linebackers into even better players than they already are.

Wow, I cannot believe you just called Seau "sloppy seconds"

He's one of the best linebackers to ever play the game. Junior has been to 11 pro bowls and while he may be old, he certainly is no "sloppy seconds".

Bring him in as an advisor and let him coach up all the young talent we have.

I think we should go with younger guys. That means neither Holdman nor Seau.

Other than Clemons and possibly McIntosh, none of these young guys look like they could be starters for us. Sure they have size, but I havent seen the intelligence or instincts of a good linebacker from them. And none of you guys can say you have either because they haven't had any playing time. We all know that Holdman failed to play well last year, so he's a potential liability too. With this in mind, why not cut the least promising of the young LBs, whoever the coaches deem that to be, and bring in someone who can start of a year, or even 8 games. This will give the young guys more time to develope before being called in to play and in the mean time we can spot play them at points in the game where they are less of a liability to get them some experience. Bringing in Seau would improve our starters and probably help the young players become better before we have to count on them. Do you guys think Marshall and AP would have done so well if they had not learned from great linebackers and had time to get adjusted to the pro game before they became starters? I don't.

We have Washington & Marshall as starters. With Clemmons & McCintosh that gives us 4 capable of starting. Havner excelled at the highest college level. Simon, if healthy, is also an outstanding prospect. We will only play 3 at a time. I think we're fine.

What I was saying is bring him in to tutor our young linebackers like Macintosh. I would like him to just pass his wisdom on to our Defense it couldnt hurt having him on our squad.

Clemons is close to becoming a good player, but he is a liability in pass coverage and thus still needs some time to develope. McIntosh is a rookie and we have a very complex defense so I would prefer not to have him become an everydown player until at least 1/2 way through the year. Havner was undrafted. If he was anywhere near being good enough to start as a rookie he would have been taken on the first day. Plenty of great college players don't make it in the NFL. As for Simon, like you said. He is a prospect. Not a proven comodity. So as far as I see it. We have 2 proven starters right now, a below average vet (Holdman), a good pash rusher who is a liability in other roles (Clemons) and McIntosh who I think will be very good in time but has yet to play a down in the NFL. Junior would be a great addition. He can fill the weak side spot until McIntosh is ready or Clemons shows he can play full time.
