ART MONK TIME. From Steve Woods of Houston: "In response to your list of 10 players left out of the Hall of Fame, I have my own list (which I know you won't agree with):

1) Art Monk.
2) Art Monk.
3) Art Monk.
4) Art Monk.

You get my drift, and yes, I am a biased die-hard 'Skins fan. Monk had 940 career receptions, 12,000 career yards, with three Super Bowls rings. I think the presence of John Riggins on the goal line is a big reason why he didn't have quite as many touchdowns as you would have thought, given his other stats, although he does have more than several receivers already in, such as Stallworth and Swann. The guy was a tremendous player, who, in my opinion, was the heart and soul of the offense for much of the '80s. You can't do any more than that. It sure does seem like you have some sort of bias against the 'Skins, and Monk in particular, in recent years. I don't understand that. Are you a Cowboys fan?!? Please say it isn't so.''

Ain't so. I'm a fan of no football team. You may be interested to know that I am going to rethink my position on Monk this year. I don't want to be so stuck in the mud on this issue that I close my mind to the possibility that I'm wrong and that Monk really does belong. So I'm going to sit down with Joe Gibbs when I see the Redskins this summer and try to soak in what the Monk side believes I am missing. A lot of people I respect tell me I'm dead wrong on Monk -- Len Shapiro, Mike Wilbon among them, plus quieter ones with close ties to the Hall. So I'll rethink my position and let you know what I come up with.

This bodes well for Monk fans, I think. Reading between the lines, I think this year will (finally) be the year!

Kind of hard to believe, I know. He's talking to Gibbs? Pencil Monk in now for the Hall of Fame.

I'm going to rethink my position on Peter King this year. I don't want to be so stuck in the mud on this issue that I close my mind to the possibility that I'm wrong and that Peter King really does know anything about football.

I'm shocked that he would actually say something like that! I had to read the article to believe it, but after I read it I still have a hard time believing it. I mean, think about it......Peter King is actually saying that he's going to be more openminded on Art Monk!?!??!?!?!!? Maybe those 16 million emails have finally gotten through!!!!!!!! On second thought..........he's just tired of reading about how stupid he is for not voting Art Monk in and wants a little break! I mean, this IS Peter King we're talking about here. This guy said he didn't vote for Art Monk this past year just because he only made three pro bowls and you gotta make 10 consecutive pro bowls to be considered......or some stupid crap like that.

By Peter King's logic, neither Sammy Baugh or Ray Nitschke belong in the Hall. Only one Pro Bowl each. What an ass.

Well it's like King said when referring to Michael Irvin and I quote:

"Catching 750 balls for a three-time Super Bowl winner and being the key guy in the locker room on game days ... that should make him a gimme."

So if this is his own logic I would like for him to explain how Monk doesn't get in with 940 receptions and 3 rings.

MORON!

Color me cynical.

IF Peter King finally does the only right thing, and votes for Art Monk, it is for one reason, and one reason only... his "Man Love" (I can't say what I really want) for Michael Irvin.

He blew it with his "750 catches and 3 Super Bowls" statement, and he knows it. He is now cornered. He cannot hope to vote for Irvin without appearing the total hypocrite he is, unless Monk (who more than matches those criteria) is also voted in. OOPSY. At least something good may come of it.

He's still a jerk.

Also, Riggins only made it to one Pro Bowl and that was in 1976. Is it possible to be removed from the HOF voting committee or do you have to die first?

King is one donut and a triple-triple latte away and I think Zimmerman is 106 years old, so maybe there's hope yet.

Which also begs the question: why are they there in the first place?

Mainly because they are senior journalists in NFL cities. That appears to be the main criterion.
Also, (insert witty line here.)

I can't see how this d*uchebag King can be taken seriously with his opposition to Monk. It blows my mind how he can be so strongly against a classy player like Monk, and strongly for a coke head like Irvin. Irvin is, was, and still is a disgrace. He is a half witt, and stinks at his commentary job. ART IN NOW!!!
