Joe Gibbs had already won a Super Bowl, but it was in '83 when he established himself as an offensive genius. The Skins scored 541 points, the second-highest total ever, and finished 14-2. Washington had an unstoppable power game with John Riggins and Joe Washington running behind one of the greatest offensive lines of all time. And the Redskins were dangerous in the air, with QB Joe Theismann throwing to Charlie Brown and Art Monk.

I thought the wise sports writers have told us again and again that Art Monk was never an "impact" player. Is this a different Art Monk?

Or maybe they're talking about the Art Monk that I remember...played many years...main receiver on four Redskin teams that went to the Super Bowl...big, fast, tough...the deep threat who also took short passes over the middle or 12 yards down and out...the WR who, unlike many big-shot WR's today, would sometimes turn and knock a defender five feet in the air just for the pleasure of hitting someone. Certain Hall of Famer, unless the HOF voters have lost their minds.

Obviously, they either HAVE lost their minds or never had them to start with.

i guess we all can agree on one thing ,tha thing is SI is clueless on all fronts regarding art monk.

It's a shame one of the things I've always admired about Art Monk - his absolute class - may play a part in keeping him out of the Hall. He was never one to self-promote, brag, play the media darling, etc. He just went out there and played at a high level for a long time, but didn't make a big fuss about it. Now, the HOF voters seem to have forgotten about him. That's just wrong.

Id love to see Jerry Rice refuse the HOF until the travesty of 81 not being enshrined is corrected. I bet if he did it, plenty of people would follow suit.
