Texans GM mystery ends today

(Houston Chronicle (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) May 10--Texans general manager Charley Casserly is expected to resign during a meeting with owner Bob McNair today, ending weeks of speculation regarding Casserly's future with the organization.

Casserly, who joined the franchise in 2000, has spent more than a month deflecting questions regarding his plans beyond this past month's NFL draft. He and McNair said repeatedly that they preferred to focus on the draft for the past few weeks.

You know, it's been brewing for a long time, but the selection of Mario Williams , over Bush, I'm sure was the final straw. Bush will put people in the seats and make the Saints money for years to come and no matter how good Williams is, people come to see the offense score........

I wouldn't jump the gun on Bush being a instant star "for years to come". Let him prove it first, he's a cut runner what if he tears his acl the fist season. He'd never be the same again and the Williams pick will go down in history as the smartest pick EVER! maybe, you never know.

This was apparently in the works long before they picked Bush.

I loved what he did here...but I have a hard time begrudging Snyder for making the move he did. When it came down to either he or Norv, we might've sucked either way.
In the end, it worked out. I hope CC gets his dream job up front, because he is certainly a hard worker. He truly came up through the ranks..and there's not enough of those stories in the Front Office anymore. It's all lawyers and former players.

Snyder later admitted that he picked the wrong guy (Turner). Casserly worked his way up from nothing - sleeping at the local YMCA - just to get a job with the Skins. I always hated to see him go and wish him the best.

Anybody that wants to slag Charie Casserly is likely just not very well informed or too young to know what he has accomplished. We're talking about a guy that worked his way up from an unpaid intern to the GM of the Redskins... think about that for a second...

Y'all can judge him on what you think his 'football abilities' are but it might be prudent to at some point look at how great this man's individual achievements and accomplishments are.

Well said, Boss! I also have long admired the CC story and how hard he worked to make it. This guy is a lot like Gibbs in that he is driven to succeed and is a winner in my book. I also felt that this was a loss to our team when he was not here.

I also happen to agree that the draft pick had absolutely nothing to do with this. Casserly had indicated he was leaving and IMO was asked to stay until after the draft because of how good a job he has done with the drafts. This guy is an asset to any team. Casserly picked the player for the system and the long term not the short term possible superstar. Time will tell!

Most lack the confidence in themselves to even to attempt such a task and right it off with a "No on is going to give me a shot, so why bother"

Not only did Charley take the back roads to get into the Redskins front office... He's headed to the League Office, at the start of a NEW regime. Yeah he's come a long way but he's still going.

As far as those that are knocking what he did as GM, you all sound just like those post-ers that where yelling about how all of Gibbs drafts have been bad and they miss the days of BB and CC. Maybe you two groups could get together and start a debate... Shouldn't be hard to organize considering most of you belong to both groups (depending on the headlines)

Casserly didn't make that choice the owner and the coach did.

Casserly is a very hard working man and a great person who did work his tail off to get where he was/is but I personally think his time as our GM was mediocre at best.

So, while I appreciate him as a person, I wasn't sad to see him go like I was Bethard. Just my opinion...

I think Casserly did well during Plan B free agency, and with Gibbs coaching. He signed up a great bench for the '91 SB team.

Without Gibbs -- with that sad Norv guy -- and under free agency / salary cap, well...not so good.

I think calling him mediocre is generous, I would say he rivals Spurrier.

Back in 2006 there were a number of experts here who thought the Texans made the wrong pick - I recently read that in hindsight the pick of Williams over Bush is looking better in the long run for the Texans

In this and a topic here at THN = "Dumbest move ever" - all some of us were trying to say was that it often took a couple of years to see the full potential of some of the so called "mistakes" in the draft.

Well done Charlie - I wonder how many of you remember being so sure this was a "dumb choice" and now would have the decency to say "you know, Charlie Casserly was probably a lot brighter than a lot of us thought.

Any remote chance he'll come back to the Skins...?
