So I am assuming The Redskins signed Pruitt, which is cool, you never know if he could be the next Ryan Clark or whatever.

Hopefully we make a strong push to sign either Kai Parham or Spencer Havner and Tom Malone. Believe me, Malone is going to be a stud, yes, a punting stud , and I hope he's on our team.

Skins sign Spencer Havner

Linebacker Spencer Havner, who led the Bruins in tackles in each of the last two years, has joined the Washington Redskins. A four-year starter, he ranks No. 3 in school history with 402 tackles and 42.0 tackles for losses. He also set a school record with four defensive touchdowns (three interception returns and one fumble return) and made 11 career interceptions. He was a semifinalist for the Butkus and Lombardi Awards as both a junior and a senior.

Outside Linebacker | Senior | U.C.L.A. Spencer Havner
Height: 6-3 3/8 | Weight: 242 | 40-Time: 4.72

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has excellent size and a big, solid frame...Good timed speed...Very productive and is always around the ball...Makes plays sideline-to-sideline...Smart with great instincts...Has a great motor and is very tough...Does a good job of sifting through traffic...Versatile and can play multipe positions...Excellent in coverage and has a knack for making the interception...Does a solid job against the run.

Weaknesses:
Has some durability questions and has dealt with knee and shoulder injuries...Is not a great natural athlete and looks a bit stiff...Does not always play up to his computer numbers...Is not a sure tackler...Really needs to hit the weights and get stronger...Has not been as physical as you'd like to see due to injuries...Might not really have the overall mentality you look for in a guy to play in the middle.

Notes:
Could potentially play any of the three linebackers spots at the next level...The type who does everything well but doesn't stand out in any one area...At the very least he should be a valuable backup and special teams guy and probably more.

UFAs are just as important, or more in some cases, than the guys that came in during the Draft. I am really looking forward to see who is issued a contract based on Joe'd statement in the Press Conference yesterday:

The Redskins will add approximately 11 undrafted rookie free agents during the next week. Those players will likely compete for roster spots and the practice squad.

The team is pursuing undrafted free agents who would have a chance to make the team, Gibbs said.

"I don't want to sign a bunch of guys just to sign them," he said. "When you talk to those guys, I think you have an obligation to tell them exactly what the situation is and where they fit in.

"A lot of times, the guys that don't get picked have a lot of choices. I talked to an agent who said to me, 'Look, I just made four other teams mad. Take care of this guy.' So those are the kinds of things that are playing out. I take it real serious. We're real careful about it."

One undrafted free agent that the team has no interest in is quarterback Marcus Vick, who had a checkered career at Virginia Tech before entering the 2006 draft. Gibbs said the team is set at the QB position with Mark Brunell, Todd Collins, Jason Campbell and Casey Bramlet.

The Redskins are expected to announce the list of undrafted free agent signings later this week.

The Hurricanes players who didn't get drafted: fullback Quadtrine Hill, tight end Buck Ortega, defensive end Javon Nanton, offensive guard Tony Tella, defensive end Thomas Carroll and offensive guard Tyler McMeans.

Ortega signed a free agent contract with the Redskins, joining newly drafted linebacker Roger McIntosh and three other former Canes

Tight, this guy was worthy of a 4/5th round pick IMO.

Fantastic, Havner is awesome and I've seen Ortega do some nice things. I think Havner will make the team.

They always bring additional QBs for training camp. But I am unaware if he could be useful elsewhere.

Cornell Brockington = another player on our roster with "rock" as part of his name. If I was a college kid I would change my name so that Gibbs would give me a chance.

And some wonder why this Gibbs guy is so good....or maybe they know??

Hahaha, I just saw that the Giants signed a UFA named Sir Henry Anderson. That is hysterical, we should have signed him with a name like that!

I can feel the need for a thread on daftest names ever in the NFL! I'd better see if there has already been one...

I really like several of these guys that we've signed. No way will they all make the roster, but the competition will be great at linebacker in particular. Over the last 48 hours, the Redskins have picked up a number of solid players, and a couple of projects for sure.

Special teams coverage should be outstanding next year. :)
