Free pass for Artichoke?

As much as Gibbs prefers full participation at offseason workouts, he said he had made an arrangement with safety Adam Archuleta, who has his own conditioning program but has agreed to alternate between Washington and his personal workout routine on the West Coast. . . .

Quoted from the Post...

Now maybe I'm wrong but why does it seem that this guy isn't catching the flak that Sean Taylor and other Miami players catch? Those guys go back to Miami and work their butts off and get nailed for it every year but nobody complains when Adam does? Why is that?

Personally I dont care but Im curious to know why this is so quiet.

I think the issue with Taylor last year had more to do with him not returning Gibbs phone calls.

I wish Archeleta was doing all his training with the team though. This was the first I heard he wasn't.

Also, Taylor was very new to the league and Arch has been around for a long time and his work-out habits are, I hear, legendary.

Maybe because Archuleta hasn't ever been arrested yet? Plus, at least he'll be here for some of the offseason stuff.

You guys mentioned some valid reasons but E. James and other Miami players have caught the same flak. I remeber Shockey getting some grief for it also a season or two ago. Its not just Taylor and his legal woes.

Thats fine and all but why do you all feel he's getting the "ok"? Im not just speaking on Joe Gibbs but the media as well. To be honest I dot pay attention to hardly anyone who isn't related to the Skins. Until we signed Arti, I never heard of his workout plan. On ESPN and other media outlets we consistently hear about the Miami players going to work out but not this guy.

Do you guys feel there is a bias or discontent towards Miami players?

The Boyz from the "U" are from a different mind set! In the off season the whole crew, (past and present) congregate at the "U" for a regimental workout. Most have homes, family and friends locally and here lies the problem. The Hood and South Beach are different worlds, but close in proximity to each other
Yes, they do workout hard, but they like to play hard too.
Here's their day in a nut-shell:
1- In the a.m, workout :D
2- In the p.m, Swing by the old Hood to pickup the Posse
3- Put on the Bling and polish the spinners
4- Head to South Beach to pick-up some hoe :celebrate:
5- Drink, Drink, Drink, Party, Party, Party -drinking
Results:
DUI-ASSAULTS-WEAPONS CHARGE-DRUG CHARGE-ETC..... :lowblow:

See: Taylor, Irvin, Blades (either one), and these are just the ones that you here about. The squash factor is in full play at the "U", but they do produce great players!

Bram Weinstein reported that it's two weeks here, one week off.
http://coveringtheredskins.blogspot.com/

S Adam Archuletta has been working out with the Skins for two weeks, then he returns home for a week to do weight training on his own.. The Redskins are always pushing their players to stay in town and work out with them during the voluntary period and Gibbs stressed he hopes Archuletta would work out with them full time but didn't seem to have a beef with the training regimen..

Archuleta's work out regime was covered to death when he was coming out of college. The guy basically had a specific program designed specifically to make himself an NFL safety. He didn't have the natural talent that many other players in college had but outworked everybody. Some of the work involves custom-designed equipment.

Could be that being able to do at least some of his work at home was part of the deal in getting him to sign.

Thats because he does it by himself, I don't follow other teams and players ethier I just saw it on a REdskins.com video with him. He is alternating between Skins and home, he is not completely leaving the team to workout on his own, he is alternating between were he works out and Redskin park (if this isn't true point it out, this is what I heard. I am assuming he is doing somethings that help his game that he needs to do on his own and Joe Gibbs thinks that too. Yes I feel there is a biased but a good bias saying they prepare better than other schools players, I don't know how true it is but yes I think there is a bias.

As long as the players come into camp in shape there should be no problems. Just like T.O. he comes in every year best in the league tip top shape how can you complain about a players training regimen when they make the pro bowl every year?

CLL, notice how Archuleta and Gibbs came to an agreement. This means that they are talking, treating each other like men, and coming to terms. Gibbs is legendary for treating his players like men, but how is he supposed to react when Taylor responds like a child by not returning calls, getting into mischief, and blowing off the team?

Archuleta came to terms with Gibbs and is willing to be here 2 out of 3 weeks. In that other week he'll be with his personal trainer, working like a dog.

What other teams do with their players, ex-Miami players or not, is irrelevant.

Does Gibbs have a bias against Taylor, new players, or Miami players? Doesn't look like it, in my opinion.

Also, that thread title is misleading. How is this a "free pass" for Archuleta? Sounds like they worked out a deal, which implies comprimise, if you ask me.

I saw a report on him back when he was to be drafted. It showed him working out with a personal trainer in AZ. It looked impressive. This guy is in really good shape & I know he will do great things for our team.

I forgot that Taylor was acting like a chump and not returning Gibbs calls. Point taken.

That explains it for Taylor but not the rest of the guys who catch flak every year. Guys like Adam Archuletta and John Lynch have private regimens that they do every year. I have suspicions about why certain players are singled out, but I will reserve comment on that.

One other explanation is that these guys came from teams that allowed them to do that, had success, so when they switch teams, the new management is not anxious to change their proven schedules.

It is a double standard...and its pretty obvious. My 2 cents

He does a lot of negative resistance training. Like having weight dropped on him using quick reps intended to incrase fast twich muscle stimulation, leading to more explosive power. Why he can't do this with the team? Maybe he does have some custom gym equipment. :?:

Archuleta reflects on new team, new season

Mark Armijo
The Arizona Republic
Apr. 27, 2006 12:00 AM

NFL safety Adam Archuleta, a one-time 172-pound Chandler High junior, is a poster boy for hard work.

Archuleta, a walk-on at Arizona State University, became known for a strenuous workout regimen and eventually became a 2001 first-round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams.

A month ago, Archuleta signed a six-year, $30 million free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins, and Saturday will meet participants in the first Adam Archuleta and Friends Clinic.

The Chandler Republic: Are you looking forward to the clinic?

Adam Archuleta: "It's the first time I've ever been affiliated with a camp and this is like a trial run of how I would like things to go in the future. It's something I'd like to do on a regular basis."

TCR: You played with a herniated disc during the 2004 season and missed a couple of games last season because of a concussion. How are you feeling now?

AA: "I didn't miss any games in 2004, but my back injury greatly affected my play. But I feel very good right now. I'm the strongest I've ever been in my career."

TCR: How tough is it to leave St. Louis?

AA: "It's hard. You spend five years in a community and you definitely build an emotional attachment. All of a sudden with a snap, you're relocated with new teammates and a new city. Now I'm being welcomed in instead of me welcoming new teammates to St. Louis. It's kind of a role reversal, but I'm excited."

TCR: Did you make any other visits besides to the Redskins?

AA: "No. Ultimately, it was between Chicago and Washington. Those were the two frontrunners. It was virtually impossible for any other team to sneak in there."

TCR: Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has a good reputation and may be the next coach once Joe Gibbs returns to NASCAR full time as a team owner. Was that a factor?

AA: "Yes. What I need in my life right now is stability and someone like (Williams) with a good reputation. It's exciting to have people around me who know what they're doing and have a passion for it. I'm excited ending up on a team that I think has a chance to do some great things and be special. The Redskins are a team on the rise. There's a lot of upside. It seems like the ownership and the front office work together to do everything possible to try and win. That's important in this day and age."

TCR: Did you enjoy the free agency process?

AA: "It was cool. It's nice to know you're wanted. Considering I never got a chance to go through the recruiting process out of high school, this was my first crack at teams kind of clamoring for you. It was a good psychological boost."
