So Called Experts

We all know that no matter who the Redskins choose, the so called experts will rip our choice and praise the Cowboys for whomever they draft.

In that light, I went through last year's 2005 draft grades from some of the experts just to see their genius in action. Between Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports, and Fox, only one of their top five grades went to a team that made the playoffs.

In other words, before we even let them make us mad after next weekend's draft, lets just realize they have no idea what they are talking about. In Gibbs we trust!

Dr Z (Sports Illustrated) - Top 10 draft grades were given to:
Vikings
Cowboys
Eagles
Ravens
Dolphins
Browns
Chargers
Cardinals
49ers
Titats

[/b]Yahoo Sports[/b] - Top 5 grades were given to:
Arizona
Cleveland
Dallas
Miami
Philadelphia

John Clayton - Top Grade given to Cowboys

Fox Sports - Top 5 Grades
Dallas
Vikings
Miami
Washington (At least they got 1 right!)
Philadelphia

I wouldn't give our draft a good grade, only like 3 of the players made the team. Carlos Rogers didn't start for a lot of the year and shown he might be injury prone throughout his career. Jason didn't even play. If you want to base this draft of last years performence no one would give us a good grade. Remember Casy and Moss weren't drafted.

Is it too late to trade all of our picks for Ricky Williams?

Oh...

That was before, huh?

My bad.

It wasn't because of this year's draft class though. It was because of free agency, and trades, and last years draft class. Playoff teams are built over tme not one draft class.

Hmm... Here might be another way to look at it.

The teams that have the best drafts are typically teams that have the highest picks. Typically teams with high picks have the worst records the previous seasons. It is difficult to improve from the bottom of the league all the way to the playoffs in only one season. Even the best drafts typically take a few years to bear fruit.

Therefore, lack of a playoff appearance the year following a good draft does not necessarily invalidate the perceived or actual quality of the draft from the prior year.
