i miss old hockey.. between new rules about fighting and new rules on interfearence the NHL has destroyed itself. they wanted more scoreing as a way to boost ticket sales when all the needed to do was go back to the old rules where you can fight a guy and one person wins and you both go to the box and thats that.
i mean whats hockey without fighting?
i once went to a fight and a hockey game broke out!

Honestly... I've been in bigger hockey fights let alone seen them. I was once in a brawl that ended up with over 70 people on the ice (players, parents, coaches, police)
It was awesome.
... not to my dad.
But it was to my girlfriend at the time's dad.
People that don't play the game, see the fighting as violent. People who play the game know that it's a far better alternative than getting kranked over the head with a stick, and there's nowhere near the venom of say your average street fight involved.
The instigator rule has changed fighting entirely. There's less accountability on the ice because of it. 'Back in the day'... you didn't slash the opposing team's star player because the team goon would then come out and beat the crap out of you. Now if a guy picks a fight like that... he gets a game and an additional penalty and puts his team at risk... so it rarely happens.
Garbage.
