People who mindlessly bash country music annoy me.
It's the broadest genre of music IMO. Saying you hate country music is like saying you hate bread. Which kind of bread? Wheat? White? Sourdough? Rye?
I also have my doubts about anyone's ability to appreciate ANY song musically or lyrically if they are so closed minded they hate an entire genre of music.
IMO Kieth Urban, Kenny Chesney and others suck because they sing pop music about Tennessee, in a southern accent and call it country. (Especially Kieth Urban who is from freaking Austrailia.)
I like the classics, or the occasional new artist with the right sound who comes along.
Classic rock is my first love though, but I can listen to some rap, 80's, etc. etc. I try to keep an open mind about music.

country music makes me wanna jump out my window.. the worst is pop-country like garth brooks and shania twain all that crap.
i dig bluegrass and old school country a la willie nelson and cash, that music has value,
listening to pop-country and calling it country is like listening to jay z and thinking your listening to public enemy snoop or dre or listening to the white stripes and calling it rock and roll.

Amen and Hallelujah, friend!
And by the way, Toby Keith sucks and blows at the same time.
What is Toby Keith, basically, but a lowlife bully and a pathetic excuse for an entertainer, who entertains with a constipated baritone grunt, combined with kindergarten-level musical skills.
Considering Toby's erection for America, maybe he and his gung-ho, blindly patriotic buddies should boycott true country music. They don't belong to it.
From what I know, traditional country music comes from humble roots. It is the music of the poor, the downtrodden, the disposessed, even, dare I say, the disenfranchised.
And there have been some great country music artisis who hae come from this lean and noble origin - such as Uncle Dave Macon, the Singing Brakeman Jimmie Rogers, even the Man In Black, and we know who he is.
These guys made music that would have that Professional Cheesecake Fascist Mann Coulter, as Buddy Blue would call her, crying for their having a Zyklon-B shower if their music were recorded in modern times.
I say, let's sign Toby Keith to fight Natalie Maines in a cage at the Phone Booth. We could put it on PPV, and make a ton of money for whatever cause you want.
Tell me what'cha think of it, friends.

Now you know another.
I have a CD with Alan Jackson, B-52's, BoyzIIMen, The Invisibles, The Clash, Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash, Will Smith and others. The good thing about copying your cd's to MP3, is that you can then pick and choose to make your own mix.

Tell me, Redskin in Canada, since you've mentioned Shania Twain, how do you feel about Canada's underground country music treasure, Stompin' Tom Connors?
See you at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium.

Not as hot! Thank you very much!
Actually, my region in Canada is a mix of blue grass, folk and celtic music. When we want to hear good music, we visit each others kitchens. (it is a ttradition here, do not laugh).

But I do want to know how many of these songs are real. I spotted one known-real song. The rest are great titles, and express the sentiments of a lot of C&W songs, but before I go to the trouble of Googling them all, 'fess up: how many really were recorded by someone?

When I originally posted the Top 16 list, I assumed that they were all made up for amusement purposes (I don't listen to much Country music). I never thought this thread would turn into a "Country sucks" vs. "Country is great" debate. I just thought the list was humorous.

Does
Stan Rogers(RIP) qualify as a country singer or as a folk singer? He was the best singer to come out of Ontario in quite a long time.
