Good that second round pick is going to go to a LB. I was hoping this would happen, I don't like the idea of using the second round pick on a third corner.

Man, this is such a deep draft for LB's... I want a beast linebacker so badly.

2nd rounder is going to be a OL, IMO.

Why do you think it will be an OL? We still don't have the starting OLB locked down yet. Don't you think we shouyld adress that 1st/ Plus we signed 2 OL last week.
As for Wright, I like the signing, but I would still like another CB. The less chance of Jimoh on the field at CB the better.

I agree the Redskins' top draft choice should be used for another OL, specifically a tackle. Both linemen signed last week were guard/center types, not tackles.

Ideally, I'd like to fill both holes, but at this point I'm a lot less concerned about whether Gregg Williams can plug a Chris Clemons or Warrick Holdman in at linebacker than I am about what we'd do if Samuels or Jansen blew out a knee in the preseason and we had to rely on Jim Molinaro.

I agree. We should take a stud OT in Round 2. But, only if the best CBs are gone. Good CBs are very hard to find.

At this point we should draft the best player available in the draft at the 2nd round.

If one of the top OLB's, OL's, CB's are there in the 2nd, then you've gotta take them.

I don't understand drafting OL with our second.

The starters we have on the OL now could easily be there for another 3-5 years.

I understand wanting good depth on the OL, but we should use what we have or later picks on that.

I would want my first day picks to be a potential starter.

We may or may not all ready have our starting OLB on the team in Clemons, McCune, or someone else.
I do see the need for a CB when Springs starts to loose speed and is moved to saftey.
Hopefully this won't be for another 2-3 years, when our CB taken this year(with our 2nd round pick) is ready to step up and play along side Carlos.
We only do this if there is a William's type Corner we want when we pick.
If not then we pick up an OLB or best player available.

LB is a deep position, and one that is our biggest need...

I think it's a no brainer that we take a LB unless someone spectacular managed to slip.

I think it will be an OL in the 2nd mainly because we need a possible replacement for Dockery if he leaves next year. Don't forget Thomas is coming off an injury and we lost Ray Brown this offseason also. Plus, all are starters are 29+. We did sign some guys, but they aren't guys who can start. We need a 6th starter for the line, a guy who can play G or RT (Molinaro is going to be our back-up LT). There are a lot of really talented players in this draft who fit this mold exactly and are slated to go mid 2nd - mid 3rd, right where we pick. I know Gibbs and Williams don't want a guy we draft to have to start right away (see C. Rogers, S. Taylor, etc.). So, we will draft a OL in the 2nd so he can hopefully sit for a year and adjust to the NFL. Most likely, it will be one of these guys:

Davin Joseph
Deuce Latui
Charles Spencer
Ryan O'Callaghan
Max Jean-Giles
Daryn Colledge

I just assumed the line(including Steady Eddy) would be around for awhile.

While a great 6th man for the OL would be awesome; I see a bigger need for a starting CB in the next 2-3 years.
And like you said, he wouldn't be starting in his first and probably second year.

Either way, I'm sure the staff will pick up a great player no matter what postion it is.
Hopefully a LB on the team can step up and we can address either Tackle or Corner with our 2nd round pick.

Id love to have Dqwell as well, but I think he will be gone by the time we pick. Unless we trade up....which I hope we dont.

I have a feeling JGibbs is going to trade even more of our picks to get a higher pick in the draft, if we're desperate for more than one dominant player.

Bingo! We have no real holes on this team right now. We have enough LBs and a smart enough coach that we will figure that situation out.

Right now we are in the enviable position to draft the best player available at one of many different possible positions.

We will get the best available OG, CB, LB, DE, or DT on the board. We may even go with a S (given STs court case) or an OT or TE. I think it's wide open.

Might be cool/ bold to try to snag LB Ahmad Brooks in the supplemental........Dude could start if Joe+Co. could keep him off the weed!

I have to a disagree with you a little bit. I think that OLB is a hole at this point. Last season our defense struggled when Holdman was the starter and he gave up plenty of big plays on his side of the field. If he has to start again I think that OLB is going to be a serious weakness on our defense. Obviously there is plenty of time left before the season for either McCune or Clemons to step up and claim the position, for a player to be drafted, or for a free agent to be brought in. But at this point OLB is a hole IMO.

I'd go with Simms if he were there and I was looking at LB

A stud LB would make a huge impact somebody in the mold of Lawrence Taylor type player. Big,fast,strong and smart. A guy who could terrorize Quarterbacks play after play that would really take our Defense to the next level. My first choice would be Manny Lawson out of NC state a D end convert him to outside LB. If hes not there then there are lots of raw young talent in the draft. We allready have two studs at the safety positions a middle backer,Washington on the other side. Carlos Rogers hopefully he steps it up this season. Shawn Springs is always solid. Our D line is very stout against the run. We added another passrushing threat. So that leaves the spot vacated by my beloved Arrington. How about Stanley Mcclover out of Auburn. We dont need a small outside linebacker gettin blown back against the Cowboys. We need the Beef!

If Lawson is there, we could interchange him and Carter between the DE and the OLB spot. That would really confuse the opposing offense

Another vote for best player available.

We don't neccesarily need a LB, or OL. THough I can certainly see us going that direction. I do think that locking yourself down to one or two positions is a mistake.

As for our O-line, its not true that all our starters are 29+.

We don't have a starter over 30. This unit has been together for a year now. Dockery, Thomas, Samuels, and Jansen have played together for 3 years....What other team can say that. four starters with 3 years together and all are under 30!

We have depth on the interior line, but what we don't have is a good replacement tackle if Jansen or Samuels are hurt. Not yet sure about Molinaro since we haven't seen him play...maybe one of the mods can give us a better idea of how he would play if pressed into duty.

Yeah I would too, but I'm pretty sure Simms is considered a first rounder.

LB Wish List:

1)- Erie Sims, FSU, 6'.0, 220lbs, Greg type mentality, Animal!
Pros: He is a very instinctive LB. Goes all out every play and can punish anyone who is in front of him. Very hard hitter and has a nonstop motor.Very muscular and in shape athlete.
Cons: Tends to be to aggressive and may over run the play.Shedding blocks can be difficult. Vision and field awareness must improve if he wants to be one of the best LB's out of the draft.
Overall: All around a good player and will probably go late in the first or early in the second round.
Gone by our pick.

2)- Bobby Carpnter, Ohio State, Natural instincts and constant motor.
Pros: Has great size for OLB at 6'3 255. Can line up at DE on pass rushing downs. Has a 40 time in the 4.5 range. Leader on the field. A very good blitzing linebacker.
Cons: Had a bad leg injury in final regular season game. Can sometimes be very raw on the field. Not always great technique. Doesn't always use his strength.
Overall: A good outside linebacker with a very good upside. Should be taken in the late 1st RD to early 2nd round range. Could be a better pro than teammate A.J. Hawk. Isn't a 100 tackles type of guy but a 60 tackles 11 sacks 3 picks type of player. He is a playmaker. Reminds me of a Joey Porter type of outside linebacker.
Leg injury may allow the slide to Skins

3)- Anthony Schlegel, ILB, Ohio St. Sleeper and good possibility he's there when the Skins pick.
Pros: Great game speed, can cover and take on blocks, rare blend of agility and toughness
Cons: Overshadowed by other high profile OSU LB's. Not flashy, or cocky enough
Overall: Could end up being the best nfl ready inside linebacker in the draft. Great natural instincts and awareness.

It would be a coup/luck to get any one of these guys, but we can hope!
