hello, yes i am a Giants fan. I figured i'd get that out there right off the bat (plus my sig and name give a little hint). And i am not here to troll. I wont say stupid stuff about the redskins if you don't say just stuff about the Giants. I just want to know if you guys think Arrington is a bad player. Because there is this guy on the Giants MB that says Giants don't want LA, he sucks, the skins never liked him, etc. I just want to know if you guys think he was good and if he would be a major help to a defense.

Once again, not here to troll or be a jerk.

Yes, he's good, and yes, he'd help your squad. Wasn't linebacker a weakness last year? Lots of injuries, etc., for you guys, wasn't it? As for Lavar, I wish we'd kept him, but it's too late now . . .

i'll bite ...

As fans we loved Lavar. He is a gifted athlete - a real beast when he's on his game. The problem with him is that is is at his best when he free lances. That works fine in college, but not in a system where everyone has to play their position. I was sorry to see him go, but suspect he will be real sucessful if he lands in the right situation.

I think Lavar has huge potential to be a great player; however, he freelances too much. If someone get get him to play within a scheme, he could be great. Thus far, however, he hasn't played to his full potential.

My 2 cents

LaVar is a good player -- no doubt about that. The reason the Redskin coaches didn't seem to like him that much was that he caused problems by griping in the media about his injuries/contract. Another problem with LaVar is his price tag. He was/wants to be paid like a great player, but his skills have somewhat diminished following his injury. He does show flashes of greatness (see 49ers game), but looks average sometimes as well. I like LaVar as a man and as a player, but at some point you have to ask he really worth all this money to the team. I believe the Redskins made the right decision going forward by releasing him and some money back, but I also think he could be a good pick up for the right price.

He's a playmaker. And, he hasn't played much these last two years and will have a lot to proove on the field next season.

do you think he is good enough to start on any defense in the nfl?

I think so. I think that his talents are wasted in schemes, like the Redskins, that are predicated on strict adherence to assignments. He was effective in Gregg Williams scheme, just not to the level that he was used to. If he goes to a team that uses his abilities properly, he'll be back in the pro bowl in no time.

i think that pro bowls players are good enough to start. the reason he didnt start was b/c of his attitude, injury and he didnt fit the scheme of defense well.

[tangent]I don't think the players in your signature will be playing in super bowl 6.[/tangent]

As for fitting the scheme, I thought he played rather well in this scheme at the end of the season when he actually got a chance to. He just doesn't get to make alot of those highlight hits like he does in other systems. If he was a bad fit, our entire defense would have struggled, because as I stated, the entire defense is predicated on assignments, and if he blew his, the whole scheme fails.

I think the reason that Lavar is no longer with the skins is the fact that he was too high maintenance. When Gibbs came aboard Lavar was complaining about a 6.5 million bonus that he felt he was owed. Shortly after that same season started, he got hurt. Weeks later he came on the radio and said that the coaches and trainers told him not to come back to practice because his body wasn't ready. He then said that he PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED them to keep him off of the practice field. After he got reinjured, he said that they RUSHED him back. He had a lawsuit against the owner for a long time over the 6.5 million and quickly got in the owners dog house. Last year, they made sure he was completely healthy before they played him. Even then, they made him watch until they trusted him to go in the game and not make mistakes by free-lancing. Last year, he was ok but the skins could not pay him more than Marcus Washington because Washington has played at a pro-bowl level the last two years. Lavar wants a lot more than the other guys are making. That didn't fit into the team structure at his position. They offered him a contract. Not sure how much money was offered but obviously not enough.

Lavar is a good player that just needs to shut up and play. Our coaching staff is old school. They don't want any players that is always crying like a little bi!@h.

Put it this way... I would very very happy to get Lavar on my team if I wasnt a SKINS fan.

Lavar is overrrated, especially by the MASSES who bought his Jersey. They are still trying to defend him to this day.

The guy isn't a REAL team player and if you want someone who has some skill...great, but if you want someone who will stick to a game plan and play with the TEAM, ain't gonna happen.

If you want someone who jumps offsides a lot, who wasn't used on 3rd downs for just reasons, who freelances TOO much, who doesn't follow instructions, who isn't a team player (but who has some "ability"), you got him.

Dude, what are you thinking????? We WANT Lavar on a rival team. It makes it easier for our o-coordinators to decide in which direction to run the ball (right at him).

Seriously, I'm not a fan of Lavar, but I do think a change of scenery (and a smaller contract) would fuel his passion for fulfilling his potential. He can be a monster again, but it certainly didn't seem like he wanted to do it in Washington. Would we take him back at a discounted price? Absolutely.

The Giants, from what I've read so far in this thread, could certainly use him.

BTW - Shouldn't he be signed by now? What could be the reason for the delay???

Yes, I agree he could be a dominate LB if he really wated but I think most of the time he doesn't give it his all. He has tons of potential and he is still young.

I wouldn't worry about him to much because I think he is close to signing a deal with the Jags.

Super athlete - a better 3-4 linebacker than 4-3. In fact, when he came out of Penn State, the word was -- will be a great LB on a 3-4 team. The Skins don't play a 3-4 defense.

free lancing he is AWESOME !!!!! DISIPLINE is NOT his strong suit,i for one won't really miss him ,yes he is a playmaker but he will blow some plays too and when played for us or sat on the bench because he could not get a grip on the things we needed him to do. if you guys sign him good luck :!:
my wife heard the giants where looking to sign him and she just rolled her eyes.

Rumor has it that they didn't like the outcome of his physical, so the upfront money changed. Thus Lavar is still looking at Cincy and the Gints.
