Electricity

In Delaware, the electricity companies will soon be jacking up their rates beginning in April. Now I hear advertising on the radio to switch electric companies. That got me thinking.

How can someone "own" electricity to a particular business/residence? Doesn't it all come from the same place? How can one company claim they own the billing rights to it one day and on the very next day another company comes in and says THEY now have the right to bill you for it?

I'm confused.

Anyone out there working for the electric company wanna chime in on this one?

they don't 'own' the electricity. they own the lines that bring it to you. all of it dosen't come for the same place. some is hydro power(river currents or dams) other is man made.

every situation is different. most companies buy the elctricity from a major supplier, than it is brought to you through their own cables and lines. it is metered at you doorstep, and marked up for 'using' the network accordingly.

power sharing gets way more complex than that, but this is the overall idea, and as much as i personally understand.

Our electric is going up 72% in July I believe. It's incredible. My electric bill will be as much as my car payment and we don't even have electric heat...we have Oil (which is another story)

They "say" our lawmakers are going to fight for us though....yeah yeah !

Up here in Pa the borough that i live in buys it from the electric co. and resells it at a higher rate to us. Our electric is higher than any other borough/city in a 40 mile radius and i live in a small borough.

God JH, it's a different guy that pedals the stationary bike in the back of your office to run the generator that provides your electricity.

Cut that guy some slack! He deserves a piece of the pie!
