Linebacker? (Will free agent shopping continue?)

Hey guys, now that Carter is here, and hopefully playing DE, we need a new linebacker.

Now, will we move Lemar Marshall to WLB and get a new MLB? (My favorite option.)

Or will we sign a WLB and leave Marshall in the middle?

Will we promote from within (McCune playing MLB and Marshall at WLB?) or what?

I have no idea how much money the Redskins still have, but I would like to move Marshall to WLB and sign one of the following:

Brad Kassell, Sam Cowart, or Ben Taylor...

Line backers are flying off the shelves fast people, any word of us being interested in one?

I have this crazy feeling that we are going to trade for Abraham. This would put Carter at linebacker. Maybe I'm wrong, but with all the activity I just get the feeling that this isn't over yet.

I hope marshall gets moved back to WLB, and McCune gets put in the middle, the guy is huge.

I hope that we can promote from within. Thats ALWAYS my 1st choice.

I just don't know if McCune is good enough, but if he is, it would be a lot easier for someone who already knows the system to step in...

He should know the system by now but he still needs on the field experience.

These guys will have a good offense to practice against.

LB is this draft's deepest position. We could get first round talent in the late second round. I doubt GW would want to insert a rookie in a MLB. Here are the prospects:

MLB:
D'Qwell Jackson - great all around LB would be a steal at 52
Abdul Hodge - smart, big hitter, and sure tackler, great combo for a LB

OLB:
DeMeco Ryans - excellent college career
Thomas Howard - 6'3 and 1/4", 239 pounds, 4.42 in the 40
Roger McIntosh - great athlete from the U

I would love taking any of these guys and at least 2 or 3 of them will be available when we pick.

This is probably the best option for the Linebacker position. Moving Lemar back outside and taking in a new MLB isn't a very a good idea. The MLB is the quarterback of the defense and needs to be smart and know all of the needed shifts and changes on preplay. I think Marshall did a great job with that last year and should stay in that position. Moving him would mean another player trying to adjust to being the leader and i don't think we'd want to do that since we have Lemar at that position already. Unless we come out getting J. Abraham through a trade with Ramsey+ picks...we'd need an OLB.

Honestly, I don't think McCune is that good.

I mean, he didn't even make the game day roster except for like the last 5 games of the season.

Sure he's a great story and he looks like he's good (cause he's ripped), but I don't think that he is a starting MLB ... yet

I want to keep Marshall at middle and draft one in the second or sign a blue collar player that doesn't cost much.

Maybe Carter is our weak-side OLB...?

I hear Thomas Howard from UTEP is good...he's got good size and very good speed. I'd really like to see us get him with our 2nd round pick. If we have to sign a veteran (not Holdman) for one year so Howard learns for 1 year, I could go for that too.

I think that Carter will be our WLB...I'd rather him play at end but I think that this is how it will shake out. Apparently this is a LB driven system that GW runs....I'm not quite sure what that means. I've always thought that with a strong line and secondary the linebackers become less important.

I'm not really worried about it...GW can get good play out of the guys we have...who would have thought we would have done so well without Lavar...now we don't have him or his cap number....we'll be fine.

I think Carter is going to play the dual role of WLB and DE because we have the veteran presence of both phillip daniels and renaldo wynn.

I think in 3-4 packages, carter will definitely be LB, but on 3rd downs he will be rotated in the DE spot because Clemons and khary can come in for the 3rd LB spot like they did last year. Who knows, with GW, we might have a 2-5 package with all our LBs!

Lemar is too slow to play outside linebacker. He is good just where he is. All we need him to do is just stuff the run and drop back five to ten yards in the zone. I think we should throw Mccune into the fire he is a young talented athlete might as well use him.

I would imagine this being one of the more likely scenarios. Carter was a great signing due to his versatility in that regard, starting his career at DE, and apprenticing at the weakside last season, can provide the perfect mix of rush and coverage and lend to the unpredictability that Gregg covets.

Let's not fool ourselves into believing our offense is "set" it won't matter how many really good recievers we have if our O-Line is not dominant. Right now top priority is OLine, GW can win a SB with what he has now, Joe Bugel however is short some Hogs.

I just noticed this article...

Our line did a decent job. Considering are running game was one of the best and at least Moss had a monster year. Cooley chipped in a couple TDs. If Randy comes back to full strength our line will be strong. The addition of Randle EL and Loyd looks good on paper but we all will just have to wait and see If they all can Gel. The real key to our success lies within Jason Campbell when this guy is ready he will take the skins to the promise land.

I agree with you, Y is it everybody wants a new Middle Linebacker.I though Lemar did a great Job, he actually won a important game for us. To me he needs to stay in the middle and get a OLB in the draft like: AJ Nicholson,D'qwell Jackson

MIKE is where we want some continuity. I want the man who knows how to QB the defense making the calls.

Mike backer is so overrated. It dosent matter what position is your leader just as long as you have a strong leader whether it be outside backer or even a safety. Denver broncos Defensive captain is John Lynch and hes a safety.

i hear that herohamo

we have a bunch of leaders (on the field) out there next year, with experience.

marcus washington has stepped up big time

sean springs is a proven veteran leader

archuleta is a candidate to embrace this defense

Is it so hard to envision Clemons or Campbell stepping in as linebacker? Lemar Marshall came out of nowehre to get the starting job at Middle Linebacker perhaps either one of these "system" guys can step up. Anyone should be an upgrade to Holdman!
