I don't think this has been posted yet. It's a Post article with pretty detailed plans for the Skins in free agency. It just came out a little while ago, updating this morning's article quite a bit.

The Washington Redskins began pursuing several free agents last night before the market officially opened at 12:01 a.m. this morning, and also were working to acquire restricted free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd from the San Francisco 49ers, according to several league sources.

I have a feeling that this will happen and Randle El is plan B.

Defensive end Andre Carter (San Francisco), defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu (Baltimore), safety Adam Archuleta (St. Louis) and quarterback Todd Collins (Kansas City) were expected to draw strong interest from Washington as soon as the market opened,
--------------------------
and league sources believe wide receiver Antwaan Randle El (Pittsburgh), defensive end Darren Howard (New Orleans) and a cornerback like Andre Dyson (Seattle) could be contacted as well.

All of these look like true and legitimate options. I believe this. Some in the second group are plan B options though.

The Redskins were not poised to be a major player for linebackers Ben Leber (San Diego), Julian Peterson (San Francisco) or Nick Greisen (New York Giants), according to representatives for players on the linebacker market. Defensive ends John Abraham (New York Jets) and Anthony Weaver (Baltimore) did not appear to be in the team's plans, either.

I am glad we are not selling the house for Abraham.

I wouldn't sell the tool shed for him, myself. Too many issues, personality-wise, and injury issues as well.
I really got a feeling about Randle El, for some reason. I love the triple threat, and he's a solid #2 or #3 guy...which is what we need.
McGinest would be nice, too...but probably a luxury.

Brandon Lloyd
Andre Carter
Adam Archuleta
Todd Collins
Darren Howard
and maybe Brian Williams CB (Minny)

Wouldn't be a bad offseason for a team in cap hell

great way for the team to address needs if we can get them without breaking the bank too much. reminds me of the relatively ssmall splash we made last year in free agency. With the coaching staff we have, it would be easy for guys on that list to play here at a very productive level, thus negating the need for trying to sign every big money guy to fill needs. Hope we continue to find role players and guys of low-cost to fill skill positions in the offseason.

I'm a little confused about Ryan Clark and Robert Royal. I thought that they were Redskin type of guys but in the article it states that Clark and Royal aren't close to new deals with the team.

I wouldn't mind if we didn't bring royal back.

Add Jason Baker to that list and that's a dream shopping list.

I'd prefer a TE that blocks mainly -- a Donnie Warren type. Maybe Robert Johnson can do it, he's got the size, that's for sure.

With the other free agent WR's out there, I don't understand the logic in giving up a possible 1st rounder next season? Also, I saw that guy make some great grabs during the season, I just wonder if he can make an impact on a regular basis and take some of the heat off Moss. Not to mention that with him and Moss, our WR corps would be on the smallish side.

I think the thought of Darren Howard is a dream. The guy is good, but will cost wwwaaayyy to much.

My Dream offseason while keeping the salary cap in mind is:

WR Brandon Lloyd (assumming we don't have to give up a 1st or 2nd rounder)

DE Andre Carter - He's a great Double Threat. He can rush was a Pro-Bowl DE and can situationally be used as an OLB

SS Ryan Clark - Sure Archeleta would be nice, but he's kind of like Sean Taylor, just 1/2 the athlete. That would mean both of our Safties would go for the huge hits everytime, which could lead to missed tackles and big plays (which have killed us recently)

Then a solid TE, OLB, and a few good CB's (Garnell Wilds?)

Here might be the replacement if Royal can't be resigned. Or who knows mabey we get both of them. Tonight is the first time i heard we might me interested in Cambell.

Jason La Canfora, of the Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins have contacted the agent for unrestricted free agent TE Dan Campbell (Cowboys), according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

From John Claytonn's Insider...
D.C. lobbying players: The Redskins came out swinging. They made contact after midnight Friday with 49ers defensive end Andre Carter, Rams safety Adam Archuleta, Chiefs quarterback Todd Collins and Steelers receiver Antwaan Randle El and have them flying in as early as Saturday.

That's weird. Clayton took it off his blog.

It's just been moved and made into an actual article, not a blog entry:

The Redskins are also working on a possible trade for restricted free agent Brandon Lloyd of the 49ers. Lloyd was given the first round tender, but the Redskins have initiated trade talks that could give the 49ers two mid-round draft picks. Lloyd agreed Friday night to make a visit to the Redskins on Sunday. There is a good chance Lloyd will come to an agreement with Redskins for big money before the end of the weekend. The plan for the Redskins is to sign Antwaan Randle El and Lloyd.

Damn...if this panned out...whew!

Yeah, just imagine if our offensive weapons were Moss, Lloyd, Randel El, Cooley, and Portis. Add in our o-line and it doesn't matter if Brunell or Campbell are back there, that offense is unstoppable!

That would be the sickest lineup I've seen in a while...not to mention that Randel El would be returning kicks...add that to our superb defense with the addition of some rookies and you have excitement at every facet of the game.

YEAR TEAM G REC YDS AVG LNG TD FD FUM LOST

2005 PIT 16 35 558 15.9 63 1 23 2 1

2005 SFO 16 48 733 15.3 89 5 34 1 1

The first is Randle El's stats, and the second is Brandon Lloyds in 2005. Brandon Lloyd had the inferior quarterbacks in Rattay and Alex Smith and still put up superior numbers. The 49er's oline was horrible and they had no running game(17th in the NFL), compared to Pitt. Pitt had the 5th best rushing attack in football and a solid Oline, with a super bowl winning quarterback. Randle El is also 2 years Lloyd's senior.

Lloyd is also a bigger reciever then Randle El. Lloyd is 6 ft and 184 pds, while El is 5'10 192. LLoyd will bulk up with age or a more rigirous workout regime, but El is not going to get any taller.

A first round pick for LLoyd may be a reach but he seems to have a tremondous upside, considering the numbers he put up with the lowly niners. I would love to see him as a redskin.

Although both as Redskin's would be that much sweeter.

Point taken. But, Randel El was, at best, the third offensive option behind the running game and Hines Ward. Lloyd was the ONLY offensive option in SF, so he should have put up decent numbers. I am just tired of trading away our picks on guys that have one decent season.

MAN! if this all comes out as what they say. Then the Redskins are always a BIG SURPRISE in the free agency. Wether it's coming out and doing barely anything or making a BIG SPLASH! I LOVE FREE AGENCY! :o
