Arrington's replacement?

Who do you guys think it will be?
I assume the coaching staff has something planned, but we don't know what it is.
Maybe Gibbs will let us know tomorrow.
Anyways I'd like to see a player who is already on the team step up, maybe Clemons or McCune.

McCune, if not Holdman.

Its gotta be Mccune, Holdman played weakside LB last year and was horrible.

Holdman!!!
I think we may see a shift at LB again.
They may shift Marshall back to OLB and finally insert McCune depending on how they feel about him which none of us know.
I guess more likely is McCune switching to a less mental role in contrast to MLB which would be OLB.

Someone tell me what our cap hit will be this year by releasing Arrington the way we did, please. I mean, how much money did we actually save?

Comcast just reported on sportsRISE that Arrigton's realease will save the Skins about 5 million this year. Im sure Coach Joe will tell us more about that at 12

We took the full Cap hit of $12M+ but LA gave back a little over $4M which will be credited to this years cap. Total savings being reported as $4.2M this year (no dead money Next year

Im actually mildly happy about this.
What are the odds of this being a loop hole and that he'll actually resign with the team? Is that possible?

I have qualms. Maybe because of my ignorance, so help me out.
First, all possible replacements for Arrington have already failed miserably at the position, except Clemons, who's worked out ok as a third down replacement.
Second, we've gotten nothing for one of the best linebackers in the game who's likely to return to form after recovery from injury.
Third, the weak side is further endangered by the shaky groin of Springs, which will probably not last the season.
Forth, Harris will also get the ax, which will further de-stabelize the D on the weak side
Fifth, these jury tampering charges in Florida might ensnare Taylor, creating a real mess on D.
Overall: Just a little bad luck could see us opening day without Arrington, Taylor, Harris, and Springs. We might be starting Holdman, Bowen, Jimon, and a player to be named later instead. I hope Brunell's prepared to put about 35 on the board.

I don't see Holdman or Mcune as the answer there. Not Mcune, at least not this year... with all the cuts coming from other teams i'm sure the skins know that this moves up to a higher priority.

Weren't we the #5 ranked defense without Arrington?

We got CAP relief. Why not get rid of player who doesn't want to be here?

Why evidence do you have to prove it'll be an issue this year? He's going to have an offseason to heal it properly. Injuries like that take time, he had to constantly aggravate it because he needed to play.

This is a position that will need to be sured up. I think Walt will restructure, I doubt anyone will pay top dollar for him.
crazyhorse1 wrote:Fifth, these jury tampering charges in Florida might ensnare Taylor, creating a real mess on D.
Supposedly Taylor received threats also. Those threats didnt have to originate from Taylor, it could be some fanatic skin fan.

Do you honestly think think our coaches would start on opening day without doing everything they do to make the team better?

Arrington could possibly re-sign, because I feel he does like playing with us... but ben Leber might be nice...
Still, if we're saving money it might be McCune or Holdman, neither of which I am very optimistic about.

Does this bring Ray Lewis into the picture, I hope not!

I'm kinda sad that Arrington's leaving. But, i felt the same way when Smoot and Champ left, hey i got over it. As for Lavar's replacement i don't think we'll have much of a problem with. Remember he didn't play much and when he did, it was pretty awsome, but we managed without him. I think McCune can step up and start off at the weak-side and move his way into the middle after a year. I wouldn't be surprised if turns out to be a Pro-Bowler after a couple years. He's got the size, smarts, and heart to be an elite some day. Best of wishes to Arrington, wether he retires or moves on. But ill never forgive him if he ends up with an NFC East team. Like some other person did which i won't name, PIERCE, ahem...

If we get enough cap room... maybe John Abraham?
If not we might just build through the draft and prepare McCune or Clemons for a starting role.

Oooooh, getting John Abraham would be great...
Look what you've done Jake, I drooled all over my keyboard.
But why is everyone so stoked about McCune? He lost his job to Zak Keasey to start the season... I just don't think he's all that good...

Yes we were a top 5 D in 2004 without Lavar but we also had Lamar marshall to fill in for him. We don't have a replacement of his caliber on the roster right now. Holdman was absolutely terrible as a replacement last year and who knows what McCune can do.

Sure we got cap relief but I think it's dissapointing that we couldn't get more for a Pro Bowler in the prime of his career that is going to be highly sought after as a free agent. Also where did you get the idea that Lavar never wanted to be here. Throughout his career he has made it pretty clear that he loves the area and the fans. The only reason he bought out his deal instead of letting the Skins cut him is because he wanted to be a free agent now, as opposed to in the summer when most teams have already filled their holes.
Why evidence do you have to prove it'll be an issue this year? He's going to have an offseason to heal it properly. Injuries like that take time, he had to constantly aggravate it because he needed to play.
It might not be a groin injury but Springs hasn't started a full season since 2000. He appeared in 15 games last season but he left several games early and also appeared visibly hobbled in others. This is not meant to be a knock on Springs as he is one of my favorite Skins but the reality is that he is injury prone.

We dont know who is going step or who wont. Everyone was all doom and gloom about Lemar when he filled in.

He didn't start all of the 2004 season? I thought he did. You can't expect a corner who tackles like him to not get hurt. Im shocked he didn't get hurt more often.

If the NFL signs a new CBA, Ray Lewis will be our new MLB. A few weeks ago Ray said he would like to stay in the area, but not with Baltimore.

I disagree 100%.
We dont have the money to pay him.
We have talent in our depth charts.
MLB is NOT the position to spend a bunch of money on. We've had 2 nobodies excel so why go out and get a fading star?
If we're goign to waste money, waste it on a DE. Ray Lewis is not going to help our pass rush. Ray Lewis got shutdown once his line dissapeared in 2001.
Why should we fall right back into the habit that have us screwed with the CAP now? Lets use our homegrown talent and stop eating everyones leftovers? Why do you want someone's garbage? He's not the player he used to be and he's going want to be paid. He doesn't want to be a Skin cus he loves the team, its convient for him. He thinks he can come here and get a lucrative contract and not have to buy a new house or his businesses, or foundations....

I agree BernieSki. For no reason other than that seems like exactly the kind of move Snyder would love to make.

Where have you guys been? Its 2006, Spurrier is gone. Snyder doesn't make decisions, Gibbs makes them. Gregg has had 2 backups excel in his defense. The coaches gushed over McCune. Holdman is still here and clearly the coaches are comfy with him filling in. Remeber? Lavar was on the bench and coaches were clearly content with it.
Ray Ray isn't coming to DC.

Then 1999 Dan Snyder. He's changed. Think of the last time we spent big money on a free agent that hasn't worked out. It's been awhile.

Baltimore said they want a 1st for Ray-Ray anyways. No way Gibbs & team gives up a first for him.
I think we'll be fine. No one thought Antonio Pierce or Lemar Marshall were anything more than unproven backups, and look how well they played for us.
