The Colts cleared $1.845 million of salary cap room Thursday by releasing defensive tackle Josh Williams and quarterback Travis Brown. They needed the room after signing wide receiver Reggie Wayne to a six-year, $39 million contract Wednesday that included a $12.5 million signing bonus.
Release the hounds: The blood bath of cap casualties weren't as bad as expected, but Tuesday could be extra bloody if a collective bargaining agreement isn't reached. The Jets ended up saving more than $20 million of cap room with the release of seven players and the restructuring of Curtis Martin's contract. Aside from the Jets moves and the Colts moves, seven other veterans were released. They were wide receiver Johnnie Morton, cornerback Ahmed Plummer and defensive tackle Chris Cooper of the 49ers, safety Jerry Wilson of the Chargers, defensive end Kenard Lang and cornerback Michael Lehan of the Browns and tight end Boo Williams of the Saints.
