Since the Wash is pretty clear that we're got great shots at picking up Ray Lewis and John Abraham and don't need Culpepper or T.O. I'd say we have nothing to worry about next year.

Jets Designate Abraham as Franchise Player

The New York Jets announced today that defensive end John Abraham has been designated as the Club’s franchise player. The announcement was made by Jets’ General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Abraham, 27, joined the Jets as a first-round draft choice in 2000 (the second of the team’s four first-rounds picks that season) out of the University of South Carolina. The 6-4, 258-pound native of Timmonsville, SC has played in 73 career regular season games, making 63 starts, and registered 328 tackles, along with 53.5 sacks, which represent the fourth-most sacks in team annals, trailing only Mark Gastineau (107.5), Joe Klecko (77.5) and Gerry Philbin (64.5).

“The franchise tag is one of the resources we have to protect ourselves in a competitive league,” said Tannenbaum. “By franchising John, it speaks volumes about what type of player we feel he is and we stand behind our decision, with the full realization that at this point in time it is in the best interest of the club from both a financial and competitive standpoint.”

We have plenty to worry about. There's resignings to make, depth to add and worrisome injuries to key guys to overcome. This is the Year From Hell that we've all been expecting for a while now. It might be time to pay the piper, finally.
Besides, we're Redskins fans. If there's nothing to worry about, wives and pets will be beaten.

I agree with you. I was being sarcastic. We have no chance at all at getting Ray Lewis and if we get rid of Ramsey for Abraham we'll need a QB of proven worth who can be expected to last the full season. Also, without a first class WR to go with Moss, we're dead meat. I'd take TO in a heartbeat and give him his own lockerroom and keep him away from the other guys if I had to-- that's how much we need a WR.

Abraham Griffin Salavaea Daniels

Arrington Marshall Washington

Springs Rogers

Clark Taylor


Also, I like the depth at safety. This is one kick butt group of guys. 11 guys who can hurt people. If Daniels is for real, as he appeared to be last season, I don't see a real weakness here. I think Clark's better than most do and will bet big bucks Arrington will come all the way back.

As far a DE goes(if we get Abraham)
I would rather have Wynn, Abrahm and rotate Daniels in.
Did teams ever really run well to Wynn's side?

We give up two first round picks, and he will demand the biggest contract of any free agent this offseason,I would love to him but you have to pass.

Wynn jams things up, I admit; but he doesn't make tackles and he doesn't rush the passer. Daniels rushes the passer, makes tackles, jams things up only a little less effectively than Wynn, and bats down passes. I have to go with Daniels, with Wynn as a backup on both sides.

that is a great defense if we get abraham and are able to keep arrington. But defnes aint a problem. Its offense. Brunell is on the edge of his career, i dont think jason is ready yet, so yea.

It's impossible for you to add Abraham while keeping Arrington without jettisoning even more players.

I would ordinarily think so, but someone on this site wrote a really convincing scenario for adding expensive talent at DE and WR and keeping Arrington abd Ramsey by restructuring contracts and wise pruning. I don't remember the details. Sorry.

In other words, more circumventing of the salary cap.
