Does anyone know when we will find out what picks (if any) we will received for Fred Smoot and Antonio Pierce? I am not sure if we get anything for Pierce, but we should. If this is already posted somewhere, I apologize.

Well, I think we are more likely to get a decent pick for Pierce than for Smoot. Its usually based on how much playing time the player had on thier new team.
But I couldn't venture to guess what we will get.

Will we get extra picks for the prep work Smoot did in setting up the boat ride? Or, an extra pick for his playing time on the boat...?
I know that some folks thought we did the wrong thing with Smoot and Pierce but I don't. Rogers will be a better player for us than Smoot would have been in 2006. Pierce was not worth the money the Giants gave him. Wasn't it $25 mil over 5-6 years? That is way too much money for a MLB. Marshall did an outstanding job -- especially considering what we paid him.

I don't think we get any compensatory picks for Pierce, as he was never drafted and a UFA, which makes me the more angry at his comments to the Redskins who gave him a chance in the NFL.
As for Smoot, I don't know the criteria for giving compensatory picks, but if we do get a pick, it usually never equal to the value lost.

The formula has 3 determining variables. The amount of contract, the # of games played and postseason honors; with the contract size being the number one determining factor.
A team is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks if it is determined that they lost more or better players than they were able to acquire during the previous year’s free agency period. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents. We'll find out at the end of March, but it sounds like we're getting; a really ugly stripper and some guy in a cheap suit!

It's not just who you lost. they aslo take into account who you signed in free agency.
not sure of the exact formula.

It's almost a good thing we don't have a first round pick this year because we have no funds to pay a first rounder. We're a bit over the cap and after a few cuts and redone contracts we need to have a little flex to sign draftees and and potential free agents. Apparently a bunch of high paid Skins are redoing their deals, which is great and I'm sure they will still make a few cuts. So, there should be some room to sign a couple of players but probably not alot.
