I took the early bet (Redskins pk over the Jets). I need to be prepared to pay. Can someone get us a FOOTBALL GM and not an owner who thinks he knows everything just because he owns the team. I'm dying up here in the Philly market! They are talking super bowl and it is making me sick because with the right personnell decisions and coaching.....THIS DIVISION WOULD BE UP FOR GRABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Living in Delaware, I am also surrounded by Eagles fans...so I feel your pain!!!

Fortunately, I am convinced that the Eagles will NEVER (and I mean NEVER) win a Super Bowl.

The reason?

Their fans just don't deserve it.

'Nuff said.

This was the early consensus on Mr. Snyder but I say this is rubbish now. He will get credit for what a lot of people think will be the newest NFL trend...attacking the restricted free agent market. The team on the field reported by the capsules here is going to be much better than last year. Mr. Snyder and Cerrato may have aced this one. I almost guarantee you'll win that bet against the Jets. Hail to the Redskins!!

I here ya, woohit, but that DL is a MAJOR concern. Opening game, Curtis "my favorite" Martin left-right-up the middle...........playaction pass.........6 points. Some on this board may be older and longer skins fans than me (33 years a fan...since the age of six..do the math), but even if you are a young fan, our hearts have been broken too often. I've become calous. waiting for the other shoe to drop. I always look forward to the start of the season, I just hope we have something to play for come December.

Oh yeah, agree 100% that Philthadelphia fans deserve NOTHING!!!!!

I guess it's only appropriate to ressurect a long ago thread this weekend.

By the way, Vinny is the GM if you haven't noticed. His title is VP of something but his duties and roles are GM all the way. You've got what you asked for, GM hounds, so drop it for crying out loud and get behind your GM.

So far he's been exactly what the Skins have needed this off season. Re-signed our free agents at reasonable salaries and avoided the rush to fools gold free agents. And he hired an inspired choice for HC instead of a hot shot or retread. So far, it's what you've begged for - so give Vinny mad props - he deserves them.

It's appropriate to do ANYTHING to get some discussion going with the dead zone we're in. Not that I'm complaining, I think a push is a great play this year, but there's just nothing current to discuss on the Skins.

Honestly, I'm glad there isn't a lot of news surrounding the Redskins this year. It was the same last year. I haven't figured out how the Raiders have managed to spend so much money on what, 4-5 guys? They have no coach (well, technically, they do, but he's been asked to resign).

I think we are in good shape as is, and the few needs that we have we can get through the draft. We've had some pretty good success stories come from the draft, and Cerrato has made it clear that's where he plans to get most of our new players from this year.

Somethings gotta give. You can't compain that Snyder spends too much on players, and then turn around and be mad when he doesn't.

It's not the amount Snyder spends. It's the return on the investment. If Snyder pays Lamborghini prices for a Yugo, we complain. If Snyder pays Yugo prices for a Yugo, we complain. If Snyder ever decides to pay Ferrari prices for a Ferrari, nobody will complain.

Overpaying for mediocrity is bad business.
Paying market value for too many role players is bad business.
If you're going to build a successful team, you need a couple of exotics, and they do cost money.

You can call Vinny a GM if you want, but in most cases GMs have a say in which players are signed or drafted. They also don't sit down with owners and discuss football operations until the offer and contract come into play. Vinny may provide "input" in dealings with players, but in no way does he decide anything. He has to ask Danny for permission before he even lifts up the phone to get lunch. I don't consider him a GM. I believe I am in the majority on this one. Maybe the "GM Hounds" need to restate their request. I believe that we need a REAL GM.

While I do agree Danny has done what we should do this off-season, I do place blame on what he did to get us to where we are this off-season. We have our 5th coach in 8 years (not including Robiskie). Gibbs is gone. Saunders and Williams are gone. We are in worse shape than we were at this time last year. Danny (and based on your logic, Vinny) are to blame for this. Consistency is important in football. The only constant this team has had is they have an impatient owner that drives up prices and a yes-man "GM" that lets the owner run the football operations.

You forgot mediocrity. The only thing consistent about the skins for the last 8 years is Danny, Vinny, and mediocrity. That's if you don't count the 'fans' who seem to be more interested in supporting the Danny than the concept of a winning team.

I think the count for that group would be zero. I've not seen any strong Danny supporters on this site. Some people, including myself have argued that maybe he's being over criticized and that at least he's grown, but if he's ever going to be a winning owner is TBD. I can't see that being described as being "more interested in supporting the Danny than the concept of a winning team." I'd like to see if you can come up with any quotes from anyone on this site who meets that description.

Well, you'll have to read what people post here and come up with your own conclusions about what people's priiorities are with regard to this team.

I do read this site and haven't seen anyone who prioritize Danny over the team as you claim. Since you made that assertion, I challenged it. Since it's such a sweeping statement and I'm opening it up to your supporting it with anyone's statements, not just mine, if true it should be pretty easy for you to show.

Everyone knows I spend entirely too much time here, and I think from all of the posts I have read, and I read all of them, that Vinny Cerrato receives far more support from THN members than Dan Snyder does. Snyder simply cuts the checks. It is highly doubful he has anything to do with personnel decisions. From prior history, it more appears that if Cerrato or any of the coaching staff tell The Danny they want a player, he opens his checkbook.

If the only criticism of Dan Snyder is that he opens his checkbook too frequently, it is only because he can. Snyder is a businessman, not a general manager, coach, player scout, talent evaluator. He places his trust in the people he has hired to make personnel decisions. Is that trust misguided? Arguments could be made both ways. Is Snyder being blamed for the people he has hired? It doesn't look like it to me. It looks like most everyone is giving both Cerrato and Zorn the benefit of the doubt unless or until proven otherwise.

For the record, I am one of the people who does not have any faith in Vinny Cerrato as a general manager. I hope to be proven wrong on draft day.

Far be it for me to defend Lil Dan and Bug Eyed Vinny, but I don't necessarily agree with that assertion. This time last year, the Skins were coming off of a losing season and we had to hop into the free agent pool to get a middle linebacker, and were still without a LG after Dockery left. I understand that your point was more aimed towards consistency, but Bug Eyes has retained our free agent talent for the most part economically, retained a large majority of the coaching staff, retained our draft picks. They may have looked like buffoons at times during the process, but the bottom line is with a head coaching change, 1st year turnover is, more often than not, FAR more drastic than what we have seen here so far.

Now, I must go wash my hands. I feel dirty for even typing this.

I support Dan the man (I have no choice) he owns the team I love. But I don't necessarily agree with his decisions, bottom line is that he's is trying to build a good team. I've said it here before, I like the Salary cap ballet we do every year, IMO that is better than having 30 or so mil under and watching players go by. This year he's experimenting on the other end of the spectrum. Do you honestly think he is going to stay on this path of frugality? There is something in the works here...
