What players have the most to gain from the NFL scouting combine? -- Lori, Denver, Colo.
The group of players who have the most to gain are the underclassmen. The NFL doesn't have accurate measurements on juniors in terms of height, weight, speed and what type of an athlete they are. The interview process and medical exams also will be very important.

The combine will be important to Miami wide receiver Sinorice Moss and South Carolina cornerback Johnathan Joseph. They should prove to be, if not the fastest, right up there with the fastest of all the players in the draft. This is a chance to showcase the kind of speed that you really need to be a high pick, and Moss and Joseph are trying to make themselves late first-round picks.

The medical exams will be especially important for a player like Florida State cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who missed the entire 2005 season with a knee injury. Quarterback Brodie Croyle has already had two knee injuries (one in high school and one in college), and Clemson QB Charlie Whitehurst had shoulder surgery prior to the Tigers' bowl game. At Tennessee, running back Gerald Riggs Jr. missed the last five games with an ankle injury; his teammate, cornerback Jason Allen, missed the last six games with a hip injury.

I didn't even know Riggs had a son eligible for the draft. Any possibility the Skins take a chance on a throwback's offspring?
