Very telling, almost 75% of people taking the poll gave the refs a F or a D, 78.6% of people polled said the refs unfairly called the game for the Steelers, and 73.2% of people said that they thought Jackson scored that touchdown...

Hopefully this is an accurate representation of public feeling and the NFL can do something about these refs.

Though I think the refs really over-officiated all year this is ludicrous! The Sea-biscuits lost the game. Period. Lots of dropped passes and terrible clock management. Penalities can really hurt, no doubt, but they need to examine themselves instead of passing the buck.

for this question, I feel that's it's much more difficult to ref the NFL than other sports. there's just way more things you have to pay attention too, faster paced & much larger field.

Have you ever watched an NHL hockey game?

Sometimes TV is unable to make a clear call EVEN in -SLOW- motion.

Your right but the NFL is the only one with instant replay too and that should correct a few of the errors.

If the NFl is going to make rule changes based on what the public thinks, they might as well change their name to the XFL and add Vince McMahon to the Competition Committee. Seriously, I'd guess that most of the 78.6% is disgruntled Seahawks fans.

The Steelers fans are all off celebrating, so you know they're not contributing to those numbers. I bet less than 20% of the people taking the poll were not either (a) Seattle fans, or (b) people who are generally bitter from particular bad calls in this season. The remainder may be affected by ESPN's take on the officiating from the game--which for the first 48 hours was negative only, before some writers started to make sense.

I'm not saying that the refs were particularly good this year--probably this was a less-than-average season. But all this fuss makes it sound like the refs we have right now are insufferable. (How can sports writers claim with a straight face that the refs gave the game to the Steelers?!)

Hey, maybe the NFL could listen to us fans and change the rules to help the offense even more. That way, we could avoid these "boring" Superbowls in the future. . .us fans are getting so bored with defensive games and those chess matches between players and coaches from each team. Give us more touchdowns!!1!

I've got a good one: defenders must walk, not run, while on the field. Any defender caught running in an effort to sack the QB, tackle a runner, or defend a pass will be penalized with a 45 yard penalty.

I think the toughest sport to ref is South American soccer, where fans will shoot you if you call a foul on their team at the wrong time. I actually saw video of a ref with a hidden gun capping a fan who was chasing him. At least Scottish soccer hooligans will only stab you and bite your ear off. OY!
