Tecmo Superbowl!

Hey guys, I have been reliving an old favorite the last few days, Tecmo Superbowl for the NES.
I got an emulator and downloaded the TSB rom and let it rip.
1991 Rosters, like 1,500+ different playbooks you can create, etc. etc.
Also, some people have hacked the game and made college and pro rosters for tons of different seasons.
I like taking the team, finding out who is in good or excellent condition and adjusting the playbook to support the personel. (Like Riggs and Byner or just Byner and Clark, Sanders and Monk or all WR including Howard and no Warren) it makes the game even better to use new playbooks every game!

I once feared that I spent too much time playing the game (I haven't in a couple of years, though

), and then I discovered the online leagues. I didn't feel so bad about myself after that.
Madden can get as realistic as it likes--this game will probably forever be my favorite football game. Tecmo Superbowl has to be in the top 10 of the greatest games ever made; it's truly a landmark in the history of football games.

Yeah, I've NEVER met anyone who didn't love this game.
Like you said, Madden can have all the awesome graphics in the world, but I've never played any sports game as fun as Tecmo Super Bowl.

Skinsfan55, what emulator are you using? I'm using the "RockNES". I have Tecmobowl, but not the version you have.

It's called FCE Ultra also, there's Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super bowl.
Regular Tecmo Bowl has Doug Williams, Clint Didier etc.
Tecmo Super Bowl has Rypien, Byner, Monk, etc. and you play real 1991 rosters and schedules.
Check it out!

Tecmo Superbowl also has 8 plays to regular Tecmo's 4. There are some great improvements in Tecmo Superbowl.
Oh, and way to go, SF55. Because of this thread I went and downloaded an emulator (Nesticle95--seems to be the best to me) and the Tecmo Superbowl rom.
I started playing around a bit and realized I still had some of my old moves (I guess still locked in my muscle memory). So, for a good challenge I:
* Started a season with one of the worst teams in the game: the Seattle Seahawks.
* Put in all the backups--their awful QB Kelly Stoufer, 2 slow running backs with no power, 2 white wide receivers (enough said on that), and their backup TE who is actually okay. My kickoff and punt returner are the slowest player on my team.
* I limit myself on defense to the worst player, a linebacker. No blitzes allowed, no running in and bumping my lineman free, and no cheap block attempts on field goals or extra points.
* I chose a playbook that features no real long bombs, and 2 of my running plays are usually ineffective. I also try and run the ball as much as humanly possible, and practice good management of game clock (think Gibbs except more conservative. . .)
Now I'm playing a season like this, and it's pretty challenging. So far I'm 3-2, having lost to Denver by 2 touchdowns and losing to the Chiefs in overtime (I swear it's impossible to stop a good RB when I handicap myself like that).
I've still got playoff aspirations, though. But there's my new addiction. . .

lol, I think playing with Indy, New England, New York or Seattle with their BEST players is challenge enough!
You're a videogame masochist! lol

I feel like an absolute idiot and "out of the loop" but I've never heard of Tecmo nor do I know how to go about finding it to try it out. I guess my next step is GOOGLE.

lol, guess you should have played more videogames in the early 90's!
Seriously though, it might have been after your time. Us guys who were kids in the early 90's really remember this, but my dad even loved playing it too in those days...
If you want to play it on your computer, first step is to download an NES emulator just type that in google and download away. Then type tecmo super bowl roms (roms are like the games) into google and download that. Make sure both are unzipped and doubleclick the emulator and then go into it to open games.
You could have a library of 100's of games for NES, SNES, Sega, you name it. (Older systems are best for people w/o gamepads and stuff.)
