Kornheiser on ESPN's MNF?

It comes from today's New York Post:
http://www.nypost.com/sports/61194.htm
The Kornheiser thing is scary. He did audition for MNF at the time they wound up going with Dennis Miller. And what about his affinity for going to bed at 9:00 and not staying up for anything late?
But it makes sense from Al Michaels' standpoint, especially since ABC's producer and director are making the switch to NBC as well.
But what's even MORE scarier is the story I found from last Monday's New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/24/sport ... domir.html
You might just hurl when you get to the part about NBC's "backup" plan should they not be able to get Al.

Tony is pretty good on PTI I enjoy listening to him but the show is only 30 min. I don't think I want to listen to him for 3 plus hours. Tony and Joe togethere, I think MNF ratings will drop esp; now being on cable.

Tony knows so little about football, it would be a joke.
Plus, he's always talking about going to bed early. How's he going to stay up till 1:00?

Madden and Collingsworth??? Don't you need at least one coherent person in the booth?

No kidding. There's no way I could listen to that.
But Kornheiser and Theismann in the same booth would be a 'Skins love fest every time we played on MNF.

I don't know if I could take Kornheiser on MNF. He's good in small quantities but I don't think I could take him for 3+ hours.

I don't know. I've been watching MNF a long time...I've seen a lot of guys come and go.
Seems to me that they could do better. There's no need for comic relief there, you know ?

How about they worry about getting some decent matchups for once. 95% of the games shown last year were downright HORRIBLE.

NBC's Sunday Night late-season games will be flexible so they can have better games. ESPN's Monday slate will be locked when the schedule comes out in April.

ESPN names new MNF team; Breen to call NBA games
ESPN.com
Monday Night Football will have a new broadcast team when it debuts on ESPN in 2006.
Mike Tirico, Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser will be part of a three-man booth calling the games on Monday nights next season and Suzy Kolber and Michelle Tafoya will be sideline reporters. Kolber and Tafoya both reported from the sidelines for ABC during Super Bowl XL.
"I'm just thrilled to be the next person to take the greatest franchise in television sports history forward," Tirico said on ESPN Radio Wednesday morning.
Also, ESPN announced that Mike Breen will be its new lead NBA play-by-play announcer, teaming with analyst Hubie Brown for ABC telecasts beginning Feb. 12 and including the NBA Finals.
"This Monday Night Football team enthusiastically embraces our vision for sports television's signature series. We will propel MNF into a 21st century, all-day, exclusive, multi-media event that will engage fans in entirely new ways. This team will develop great chemistry," ESPN Executive Vice President John Skipper said.
"Mike Breen is widely respected for his depth of NBA knowledge and his consummate play-by-play skill. We are very excited to provide such a spectacular forum as the NBA Finals to showcase his talents."
In addition, Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon will take Pardon The Interruption on the road on Mondays during the football season. The shows will air from the site of ESPN's Monday Night Football games.
"We look to the future with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to enhance the presentation of the NFL and the NBA, two of our most important sports properties," ESPN and ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer said.
Al Michaels, the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football on ABC from 1986 through Sunday's Super Bowl in Detroit, will not return to either broadcast.

Thank God Al Michaels is out of there. . .
Don't know much about Mike Tirico off the top of my head, but hopefully he doesn't require a mute button.

Tirico is very solid, hopefully TK will help Theisman be ... less of an idiot ... I have to believe TK will take some shots at Joey T

I had the MUTE all the time anyway.
These "exciting" news will not change that. Joe is not somebody I really want to hear.

Ill give Tony a try, I like him.
It'd be cool if they had both him and Mike in the booth.

I'm not the biggest TK fan but I'll give him some rope. Let's see if he hangs himself with it.

Don't worry about Kornheiser....he'll fall asleep by the second quarter.

I don't like Kornheiser either...don't know who Tirico is. Oh well, I usually can't stay up late enough to watch MNF unless it's the Skins anyway.

It was confirmed today by ESPN: Tirico, Theismann and Kornheiser.
Did you all know James Brown was switching from Fox to CBS's pre-game show?
