Our new Offensive Coordinator: Al Saunders.. possibly?

Saunders, the first person to be interviewed Jan.11, was scheduled to meet with the Washington Redskins today for a lucrative position as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, an NFL source said.

So he used to be the OC for KC?
I'd rather Gregg take over the HC and leave this cat to run the offense.

Wow, he's a really good coordinator, I'm surprised he hasn't been offered a head coaching job yet. It's funny that Danny's willing to pay him more to be a coordinator than the Raiders are to be their HC.

Bugel has the "AHC-offense" tag right now and Breaux is the OC.
This would be a good step in the preparation for the A.G. II era. Once Gibbs goes, I'm sure all of his offensive think tank (Bugel, Breaux, Burns) will go with him. This would be a good way to have things covered.

Just when we think Gibbs is a bit stuck in his ways, news like this seeps out. I think the offense is fine now, its just missing a component or two. Im glad to see that Gibbs is looking for more ideas and ways to improve this offense. He's not changing it but adding more dimensions to it. Im loving it.

Wow, signing Saunders would most defintiely set up #8 to return to the Pro Bowl next year. Good news!

Saunders is amazing, and he deserves some respect in the NFL, just astounding that he hasn't been given a head coaching job yet...
Maybe if we sign him for long enough, and give him enough money he will be an assistant head coach w/ Gregg Williams and they will have a Coach Boone and Coach Yoast relationship! lol.

OK...I know alot has been said about this but Jake your ability to dig up stuff is unparalleled.
Al Saunders would be a great addition to the staff. He is definitely up to date on modern offensive wrinkles. Portis would become a beast next year. (not that he isn't one already...)

also do you think this could be for greg williams as head coach, I believe that if he does become headchoach he would want to stay on the deffensive side of the ball, leaving the offensive dealings to Saunders

Nice. Don't forget that the "Rams/KC offense" is the exact same playbook as the "Gibbs offense". THey just choose to throw it more.
What that means is that there would be no learning curve for this guy coming in.

www.chiefsplanet.com and some over there were saying Frank Boal (a sports reporter for a local TV station) is saying Saunders has been offered more money in Wash to be their OC.
There is quite a but of discussion about it at chiefsplanet. I just posted the link sorta after the fact...

Well at least we're pumping money into the right places now. Good players are nothing without coaching, I think we all learned that. Good players are elite with good coaching and mediocre players evolve into better players with good coaching.

Saunders will become Washington’s offensive coordinator

Al Saunders’ five-year run as Chiefs offensive coordinator officially came to an end this morning when he accepted the same position with Washington’s NFL team.
Saunders, 58, interviewed this month for head coaching vacancies with five NFL teams, including the Chiefs. But four had chosen other candidates.
The fifth, the Raiders, remained interested in hiring Saunders, but he may have been scared off by Oakland’s habit of running through head coaches.
Details of Saunders’ contract were not immediately known, but Washington pays its assistant coaches as well as or better than most NFL teams. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams recently signed a three-year extension worth a reported $8 million.
A formal announcement of Saunders’ hiring may not come until next week.
New Chiefs coach Herm Edwards had appeared interested in retaining Saunders as offensive coordinator. With that option gone, he may turn to offensive-line coach Mike Solari.
Solari, 51, joined the Chiefs in 1997 and has built a reputation as one of the NFL’s best line coaches.

I love everything about this except that I hope it doesn't upset Gregg Williams in any way. I don't think it should but you never know. This is exactly waht this team needs, a really good offensive coordinator who is also a good playcaller. Awesome!

Hey, is there any chance if Saunders leaves that we can get compensation? Does that only work for head coaches?
Anyway, this is an awesome move, I hope that he and Gregg Williams are with the team for a long time.
