I was thinking, who is the best scrambling QB of all time? I'm gonna list a few names for you to consider. If you think one of these QBs is the best of all time, vote for him. If not, pick "other" and give us the name!

The best QB that could scramble is either Steve Young or John Elway.

Vick is nothing but a glorified running back. Cunningham craps on him.

Note that I mean as a Quarterback (i.e. passer), not athlete. He's in a class by himself there.

I agree 100% A QB's 1st job is to THROW the ball. I laugh when I hear these guys say "Im more comfortable with my legs...".

Donovan is a heck of an athlete also. I like him a lot as a person and an athlete.

Well said. I also agree and voted for Young.

Well as far as yards go Vick, will be #1 when he retires. Statisticaly he will be the best because of the yardage.

Yeah but Vick has happy feet. PrimeTime made a good point, Steve Young and Elway would scramble and throw the ball to make plays. Vick just runs all over the place and fumbles.

As soon as he learns to take snaps from under center instead of 5 yards deep.

I said Vick was overrated a year or so on here and almost got sniped. I still think he's overrated

Based on physical ability, statistics and winning record, there is no doubt: Steve Young.

You can dig for really good newsreels from Cunningham but as a scrambling QB, Cunningham does not match Young. Too bad Young does not like us much.

Young is the best by a long shot BUT WHERE'S BRUNELL?!?!?

Without a doubt, he is one of the best scrambling QBs of all time! Doesn't he have the 7th best career QB rating or something? He should be on the list, he's definately better than Culpepper and I would also say Cunningham - even though he made more spectacular plays he wasn't as good a QB as Brunell.

Also, I don't think that Montana really counts, he was very quick and nobody in the history of the game could throw on the run like he could but he didn't really scramble very much, he was certainly a pass-first guy.

Finally, if Montana is on there Elway should definately be included too. He was much more of a scrambler than Montana and he made some of the greatest runs I have ever seen in my life, some of which are now remembered as some of the greatest plays in NFL history! Elway should definately be on the list.

Yeah, after someone mentioned Elway I was like "DOH!" Should've included him....but hey, that's why you have "other" available!

My votes for Young.

Forget Young. For scrambling QBs, the best of all time was Fran Tarkington. No contest. I know he was before most of these kids time, but he went to four SBs only to lose.

I do not know this man. I do not think anybody with that name has ever played football anywhere.

I voted for Fran Tarkenton, but only based off of the NFL films footage of him that I've seen. I've witnessed at least part (and all of some) of everyone else that's listed.

Have the Redskins ever had a QB that ran quite a bit as well?

Write in vote for Bobby Douglass - Bears 1969 - 1978. Don't know if he was the best, but I remember him running all over the place. Over 2600 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career.

He only lets his friends call him that.

Seriously, though. If you want to talk scrambling, then no one compares to Tarkenton. To me, scrambling means running around behind the line of scrimmage, and avoiding tacklers until you can get a pass off, or someone gets open. What Steve Young did, and Michael Vick does, is run the ball when the play has broken down. Vick may have 200 yards in a game, but Tarkenton probably had 400, they were just all East-West.
