Super Bowl Game Day Ref

In the Sean Taylor Loogie thread, The Hogster made an obersvation (highlighted) that, I feel, deserves it's own thread/poll combination, as it might affect our team when we face the Pats in the Super Bowl:

I agree, Carey is a great Ref and I used to think he was a tool because of how emphatic he is when he makes the calls, but he really is a good ref...he was evenhanded as well, ejecting ST and not Pittman, and having the balls to call incomplete on the Touchdown...he and Ed Hochuli are two refs that I would love to have on our games.

Hochuli is a beast, and is one of the more recognized refs in the NFL (plus his guns are a treat for the ladies ), but, as we all can attest, Carey is making a name for himself.

Now, while the NFL decides who officiates the big game, I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this important matter.

Hochuli or Carey? Who do you want in to officate our possible 4th Super-Bowl-Trophy-winning game, the man who ejected Sean Taylor for spitting, or the man who might have just been able to retaliate against Sean all by himself. The ball is in your court.

I say Carey. He's very informative.

I'd like to see Jim Carrey call the game. That would be pretty entertaining.

Don't they make the decisions based on an entire crew of refs, rather than assembling a team of the best refs in the league?

i do believe that it is the crew that would call the game, not an assembly.

Right, so it would be either "Carey's Crew" or "Hochuli's Hitmen". Take your Pick.

I voted Hochuli...I always liked his explanations of the calls, and I also think he's brave enough to stand up to the players and make a tough call.

Although Carey is now my favorite Ref because of last week, I still give the nod to Hercules.

Which crew officiated last year's Super Bowl?? Has there ever been a black Head Referee in a Super Bowl??

The last Super Bowl featuring the Skins and an African-American making some significant "first" (Doug Williams -- first black QB to win a Super Bowl), we brought the Lombardi home. My 2 cents

Well at first I liked Carey, but Hochuli's Hitmen sounds way cooler. So I'll go with Hochuli.

when carey decided "i'm not going to penalize/eject pittman, since he was only retaliating", that was one of the most outrageous intentional abuses of a ref's authority in NFL history. i can not beLIEVE there hasn't been more of an uproar about this.

IT IS NOT HIS POSITION TO DECIDE WHAT RULES TO UPHOLD UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES. pittman should have been penalized and ejected, period.

for carey to think he can just overlook the RULES is completely unacceptable and he needs to be severely disciplined.

CLL was the only one of us who really kept his head when that call last week was still being sorted out. I was right after Carey, myself.
Although I still think there should've been an offset, I like the younger guy for the big game. Plus, his mike works most of the time. Ed's got problems there. :)

Ed suffers from MD. Can't have that happen in a big game.
