I love watching the Giants get rocked! Almost as much as watching Dallas loose.

OMG, that was probably the worst performance I have ever seen from a playoff team.

From the NY Times:

Panthers Shut Out Giants
By JOHN BRANCH

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 8 - The Giants were greeted at their first postseason game at Giants Stadium since 2000 today by a legion of towel-waving fans. But the home crowd's intensity decreased as the afternoon wore on, until the white towels represented little but a slow surrender.

The Carolina Panthers' highly ranked defense halted the Giants' high-scoring offense, and found enough soft spots in New York's depleted defense to win the National Football League wild-card playoff game, 23-0.

The Panthers will be rewarded with a trip to Chicago to face the Bears next Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time. The Giants were dispatched for a long trip to the offseason, with their 11-5 regular-season record and a hard-fought division championship amounting to nothing but a memory.

The last time the Giants were shut out in any game was Dec. 1, 1996, when the Giants lost 24-0 at Philadelphia. The last shutout loss for the Giants in the playoffs was in 1985, when they lost 21-0 at Chicago - 15 postseason games removed from today's game.

And the last time that the Giants did not score during a home playoff game was in 1943, against the Washington Redskins at the Polo Grounds.

Today, the Giants' offense struggled to find the first-down marker, and the defense could not find its way back to the sideline. A 22-yard touchdown pass from Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith in the second quarter opened the scoring on a drive that loosened New York's defense.

Offensively, the Giants could not get running back Tiki Barber untracked, a large reason they could not keep their unit on the field. In the first half, as Carolina took a 10-0 lead, the Panthers ran 37 offensive plays, the Giants 17.

Midway through the third quarter, a mistake by Giants quarterback Eli Manning led to a quick Panthers touchdown, and the crowd sensed that the lead had grown too large to overcome.

With a first down at the Giants 16-yard line, Manning stepped back to pass, then side-stepped right to avoid pressure, throwing across the field toward receiver Amani Toomer.

It was an easy interception for cornerback Ken Lucas, who returned the ball to the 12-yard line. Receiver Steve Smith was handed the ball on an end around and coasted to the end zone, giving the Panthers a 17-0 lead.

A 21-yard pass-interference penalty on the Giants' next drive gave them their biggest gain to that point. But three plays later, from the Carolina 40-yard line, Manning overthrew tight end Jeremy Shockey, and the ball was intercepted by cornerback Marlon McCree.

With the offense out of sync, the Giants relied on their defense to keep the game close. The unit, which had patched itself together admirably after losing three linebackers and a cornerback from the starting lineup during the regular season, slowly came apart at the seams against the Panthers.

The teams traded punts on the first four possessions, each offense struggling to reach the 50-yard line before being turned back. It was not until the second-to-last play of the first quarter, when Carolina completed a short pass to tight end Kris Mangum, that either team converted a third down.

The Panthers would convert three more on that drive, using inside runs and quick passes to the outside to move the ball methodically through a softening defense.

The inside-outside combination kept the Giants off balance, and on a first-down play at New York's 22-yard line, Delhomme went over the top and down the middle, hitting Smith in stride for a touchdown. Smith, who had broken past cornerback Terrell Buckley - who was out of football this season until the Giants signed him in November - celebrated by falling on his back and doing snow angels on the artificial turf.

The Panthers hit few big plays, but more than enough well-timed small ones. Carolina converted six consecutive third downs in the first half, none more demoralizing to the Giants than a third-and-11 play at the Carolina 18-yard line with 3 minutes remaining in the half.

The Panthers handed the ball to backup running back Nick Goings, who barged up the middle for 11 yards, making the first down by about two inches.

The Giants finally forced a punt, but it turned out to be just another way for Carolina to move the ball downfield. Jason Baker's kick was a shank toward the right sideline, where it hit unsuspecting Giants safety Gibril Wilson as he ran down the field. Carolina fell on the loose ball, giving the Panthers possession at the Giants' 15-yard line with 1:28 left in the half.

Carolina settled for a 31-yard field goal from John Kasay, giving the Panthers a 10-0 halftime lead.

The Giants are now 7-3 all-time in playoff games at Giants Stadium, the losses coming eight years apart - in 1989 in a divisional playoff game against the Rams; in a 1997 wild-card game against Minnesota; and today, on a clear and cool day with a sky the blue of Carolina.

The Giants have seemed a little shaky since they visited FedEx, or, should I say, "RFK II"(?).

This means that the best NFC East team is the lone NFC East team still alive in the playoffs.

Beware of Carolina. I am actually happy to see Chicago and Carolina take care of one another.

Did you guys hear Tiki Barber statements about Coughlin?

Roughly: "We were outcoached!"

Similar statements came from Burress!

I think that if we win this week, and I expect we will, that we will be going to the Super Bowl. That is just so fantastic. I think it will be considered one of the greatest rags to riches stories in any franchise history.

Injuries, too many injuries, ...

We would have to get healthier and stop the human losses for the season. Unfortunately, every game brings additional injuries. The team that plays the best and remains as injury free as possible will move on.

That was cool that Tiki took a shot at the coach. I think the worst playoff beating of late was put on the Vikings by the Giants. I think that one ended 41-donut........If i remember right , it was 21-0 half way through the first quarter.......

That's all true, but in both games the G-strings were the home team.

Yes, absolutely...Barber said that the Giants were "outcoached", giving props to the old DC of NYG (I write this in initials at the very real risk of looking like Belichek's note in his resignation from the Jets), John Fox.
He had a meeting with Coughlin the very next day, where he and the coach sat down, reviewed game tapes together, and came to a mutually respectful agreement that the opposite was true...until Tiki took a ride with Steve Serby of the Daily News that same day and reiterated his position that the NYG were absolutely "outcoached", but that he wasn't mad at them, per se. ROTFALMAO
I love dissent on divisional teams. Lookit them Eagles and Giants. Sad.

The Giants are self destructing and I love it. They were all so high on their team and now its all gone. It does my heart good. They wish they were a quarter of the team we are.

The media loves the Giants, they have a ton of nicknames, G-men, big blue, NY-tackle-football-Giants etc.. I don't know why maybe because they are a New York team. They are overhyped! I'm not sure who I hate more The Giants or the Cowboys. I hope they both stink next year.
