Most Underhyped/ Overhyped

Most underhyped- Santana Moss
Why no talk of NFL MVP, not saying he deserves to win it, but he has the second best numbers in the NFL, and Smith gets consideration. 1400 yards and 10 touchdowns deserves a look, plus he comes up big in situations no one else can
Most Overhyped- Roy Williams
He sucks....there I said it, HE SUCKS, he couldn't guard ME on a deep pattern. Anyone see the Redskin game in week 2????? Learn something!!!He made one play that most high schoolers could make against the Eagles. Anyone could have caught he got it right in his hands BECAUSE he was out of position

Other than week 2, you won't find any highlight clips of Roy Williams getting burned.
It's pretty tough to stay in front of Mr. "4.1 40, I-hold-2-Big-East-Indoor-Track-Records" Santana Moss when he's healthy.
The fact is he gets beaten no more than any other safety in the league. Happens to the best of them, especially with these new offense-friendly rules.
BTW, the most underhyped player is Terence Newman. Plenty of people give Moss his due. Nobody talks about Newman...even though nobody's beaten him yet this season.

Nobody may have "beaten him" but that god-awful pathetic tackle he attemped on

ey was just plain sad.

Yeah, I'll give you that. It was extremely dissappointing moreso for the fact that for such a small guy, he's a pretty damn good tackler.
Not on that play.

Parcells looked about ready to beat Newman after that failed "back tackle."

PT - I like you and all but I see Williams out of position and taking bad angles on too many tackles which results in his patented horsecollar tackling. So I really can't buy the argument that Williams is a great safety. I'd say he's a good safety, but far from one of the best.
Can he hit ? Sure he can. Can he help stuff the run ? Yup, I'll give him his due there since he's a helluva player against the run. But the fact that he made the Pro Bowl over some other safeties in the NFC this year is a crime.

Drew Carter or whoever it was burned Williams when you played Carolina Saturday. It was on a long Delhomme TD pass.
Don't lie to us.

Didnt the Bradon Lloyd burn Roy too in Week 3?

Nope, that was Henry and Davis.
Jake, didn't see the game Sunday as it wasn't broadcast here and didn't see that play in the highlights.
Not that I don't believe you
But like I said, every safety gets burned once in a while, even your "great" Sean Taylor.

Most overhyped?
The self-descriptive "best" QB in the NFL, Michael Vick.
Most Under-Hyped players:
Cornelius Griffin, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Mark Brunell, Clinton Portis,

ey, other Skins ...

This may come as a shocker because in the past he has had a lot of hype but my vote for most under-hyped is:
CLINTON PORTIS - this week he only became the third player in history to rush for 1300+ yds in his first four seasons along with HOFers Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders and yet you hear nothing about this incredible feat. He's also broke the Redskins' record for 100 yd rushing games in a season and he is on the verge of breaking the 'Skins' single season rushing record. He is also only 96 yds away from his third 1500 yd season in four years. This guy is hands down one of the best players in the NFL.

This is a total reach. Terence Newman?! He's average at best. The Cowpies give up an average of 196 passing yards per game (13th in league) and he has only 1 sack on the season. Yes, yes, he has 54 tackles. And what does that mean? Not too much -- he's just under par.

I agree with all that and just want to add that I love what he does when
doesn't have the ball - blocking, picking up blitzers, even trying to get in on the tackle if there's a pick. Seems to be giving 100% every play, even if it's not
his play. He's the anti-Moss [Randy, not Santana]. Hope he's here for a lot of years.

About 15 of those yards go to Terence Newman's side of the field.
It's not his fault no one throws at him.
It's also not his fault he's shut down anyone he's faced so far. (See Steve Smith - and don't give me that ejection BS. He had 3 quarters to do something and had one catch)

Steve Smith isn't the only receiver he's faced this year.

And he isn't the only one he's shut down.
Which further drives me up a wall because Zimmer doesn't just assign him to a WR instead of just one side of the field.

So it's the coordinator's fault he's not getting the stats he "deserves"? Look, my whole point was this guy is no Champ Baily, Ty Law, or Ronde Barber. Not even in their stratosphere. He's average and average players get average recognition.

You're saying he's an average player, which couldn't be further from the truth.
I didn't say the coordinator robs him of stats, I said the coordinator doesn't stick with a man to man gameplan. He's not gonna get stats anyway because no one throws at him.
The only guy on the aformentioned list that I think is better than him right now is Bailey...and not by much.
Next time you try to outsmart me, make sure you know what I am (or you yourself are) talking about.

I'm not trying to say he's bad or anything, but in what way is Newman underhyped? I mean, he plays on one of the perennially most over-hyped teams in the league. So he wasn't pre-emptively declared a star before the season like Julius Jones, does that make him underhyped?

I see, so in your mind Terrance Newman is better than Ronde Barber or Ty Law. You're kidding yourself. Stats are the only indicator of a player's performance. Who said that? Oh yea, that was Man-Boobs Parcells. Newman's are around or slightly above average. But poor guy, it's just that nobody throws his way.
BTW, there's no outsmarting -- that'd just be too easy. In fact, I'll go this far: The whole friggin Dallas team is overhyped.

Since when are the Cowboys overhyped? Last I checked, all the experts called them a "Highly inconsistent" football team...which they are.
Stats are the only indicator of a player's performance
Are you serious? If this were the case, Clint Longley would have been a Hall of Famer.
Like I said, nobody throws at Newman. Simple fact. Stats aren't everything. Sam Madison once said the mark of a great corner is one who doesn't get challenged, because as long as the guy in front of you don't catch the ball, you did your job.
Newman's done that.

You're absolutely right. I mean no one threw at Deion Sanders in his prime, who was one of the best cover corners of all time. Oh wait, he did manage to get an interception or two, didn't he?
And I think Darrell Green, despite being thrown at very seldom, managed to pick off a pass or...54.

They don't throw at Newman because the guys on the other side of the field suck. That doesn't make Newman a great corner. It just makes him better than those other chumps.

Until the late season groin injury, Anthony Henry was pretty damn good, and he made plays when he was tested.
Aaron Glenn (the guy who Moss burned) was a nickel corner.

Most underhyped have to be Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis.
Sean has been snubbed from the Pro-Bowl, and Clinton has complied over 1500 yards this year and Warrick Dunn went over him...Dunn isn't even the leading scoring back on his team.
