Well... some of you might finally be starting to get it... Joe Gibbs is not only a special football coach but a special person.

This team has had every reason to collapse over the course of this season, and here we sit... perched on the playoff ledge with our destiny in our own hands. Winning out will put us at a resopectable 10-6 and STEAM-ROLLING into the playoffs. There isn't a team in the hunt that wants to see the Redskins on their playoff dockett. Good running, good run defense and good coaching... a sure recipe for disaster for a 'better' team.

How on earth did we get here? Some of you had hangman's nooses on your Christmas lists as recently as a month ago.

Joe Gibbs. That's how we got here.

It's Christmas Day. I hope Joe Gibbs is somewhere relaxing for a day with his wife Pat and maybe actually trying to enjoy NOT being the man who put Redskin football back at a respectable crossroads... at least for 24 hours.

24 months ago it seemed impossible that even JG could fix all that was wrong with the Redskins. And yet he has.

Merry Christmas Joe Gibbs. Thank-you for giving Redskins' fans a present that has been gone for sooo long...

P R I D E

You'll never accept the adulation that being such a special person brings... at least accept the wealth of gratitude that your dedication has earned.

All Hail Gibbs!! :hail:

I wish I was old enough to really experience the glory days in his previous tenure.

I'm just grateful to see him back in action this time around.

joe gibbs is the ultimate redskin and the team is buying into his philosphy.he is indeed a special person.he is truly what this franchise is all about.to add to that meeting him back in 93 (avatar)pretty much summed up what kind of person truly is.it hit home to say the least.i even have a couple pictures in my room like my avatar pic so joe gibbs is a part of the poe family as well.i knew from the moment i saw him walk into the back of the interstate batteries trailer to meet him i did,nt have to say anything i knew right then and there what he meant as a person.

I echo your sentiments to the letter, BH.

Joe Gibbs is not only a great Redskin, but a great human being. He is unique in every sense of the word, and has given up more than we can ever imagine to try and get the Redskins back to winning games. As you so rightfully point out, 24 months ago this team was in such disarray that people would wonder whether even Joe Gibbs himself could do it. But do it he did, and he will not let up one bit in his pursuit to bring winning ways back to the Redskins. We, as a Redskins family, have so much to be thankful for. We have to thank Joe Gibbs for working so tirelessly, and for giving up so much of his own life, to do exactly what he is doing.

Jake, you mention you weren't here for the first go-around, well, I'm sure you're well aware now that you're in for a treat. Joe Gibbs is a man who will devote his entire life to whatever it takes to bring the Redskins back to their winning ways. But, though we are all finally on the same page inasmuch as we know he can do it, but there's something about the WAY he does it that makes him so special. He's never mean spirited, he's never condescending, never calls out a player(s), never forgets to thank the fans, and he does it in the most humble of ways. Yet, his obvious genius shines as bright as it could possibly shine. Those that witnessed, though a better word might be "experienced" the first era, can preach about how they can just "sense" what Joe Gibbs is doing, and how just listening to Joe Gibbs brings an almost calming, confident feeling. Joe Gibbs works tirelessly towards his job, and realizes what the bottom line is. He knows what he's up against, and he will tackle this job with all the enthusiasm and strength that he can muster. For that, we should be very thankfull.

And, while we're on the subject of thanking, I think we would all be remiss if we didn't thank Dan Snyder for maturing. For having the dignity to effectively say "I'm not good at this, I want someone to do it for me and I want that person to be Joe Gibbs". While what seemed like the whole world was condemning Joe Gibbs, Dan Snyder never waivered in his support, and better yet, hasn't been as obviously meddlesome as he has in the past. One doesnt' have to read it in the papers or hear it on television, but you can just feel the fact that Snyder is rightfully just sitting back, watching the Redskins play, and enjoying it every bit as much as we, the fans, are cuz he too is one of us, a fan.

While Dan Snyder has brought many an angry comment from some of us, we do owe him a giant Thank You. He too has handled all the adversity from the last two years in a classy manner. Thanks Dan, and most of all, THANK YOU to JOE GIBBS!!!

I have nothing to say that would add much to the wise words of those who have gone before. So, I'll just add a very large AMEN to the discussion.

Same here. I mean, I was super happy when we first got Gibbs, but I didn't understand the magnitude of his importance to this franchise.

But now, I know.

I GIBBS WE TRUST!

I love watching the Redskins this season. I got a Redskins Superbowl DVD and so of those plays called today are similar to the plays in the DVD. Gibbs doesnt have complex plays, he just get things done and gets the loyality of his players. Thank You Coach Gibbs.

I have only been a fan of football for about three and a half years -- my wife got me into the Redskins when we first got together and I have never looked back. I am embarrased today to say that I had no idea who Joe Gibbs was when his return was announced. But I have done my homework and I now am very familiar with many of Gibbs' great accomplishments.

What is most compelling to me is his management style and his ability to get everything out of his players. I am not sure how he does it, but he is able to form these teams that gel so well -- nothing shakes them from their goal of winning. It must simply come down to his eye for talent and character that gives him the ingredients of such great teams.

What inspires me the most about him is that he gets results through being positive and never critical of his players. I think it takes a very strong person to lead so softly and at the same time wield such a powerful stick. He is a great man and I thank my wife for bringing me into this sometimes frustrating, but always interesting world of the Redskins.

You are all great folks. Happy Holidays and let's go deep in the playoffs!!

Week 16 snapshots

By Vic Carucci
National Editor, NFL.com

(Dec. 24, 2005) -- Would anyone want to tangle with the Washington Redskins in the playoffs? I don't think so. The Redskins are as hot as any team in the NFC, extending their winning streak to four with their 35-20 triumph over the New York Giants. The Redskins have their offense humming, getting touchdown passes against the Giants from three different players (two by Mark Brunell, one by Patrick Ramsey, and even one by running back Clinton Portis). Portis also was highly effective on the ground with 108 rushing yards and a touchdown. Ever since the Redskins began playing to the strength of their offensive line, which is blocking for the run, they have been able to consistently take (and keep) control of their games. In holding Tiki Barber to 80 rushing yards, the Redskins defense did precisely what it needed to do to slam the door on the Giants.

I wonder how many of these posters would be bashing Joe saying he was too old, too married to his way of doing things and too everything else under the sun had Gibbs not turned this thing around this season. Guess we'll never know, thank goodness.
