Official Playoff Scenario Thread (Merged)

I don't know enough to be the one, but I'd like to know what all the scenario's are going into Philly week for a Redskins playoff future. Obviously I know that if we win, we clinch AT LEAST a wild-card, while a Skins win and a ny loss to oak means WE WIN THE EAST. I am sure there are many other scenarios, so let's hear'em. Atl is done, Dal ruined what was otherwise a perfect Saturday, I know Minn will lose in Baltimore.

We are a better team than most people make us out to be. I don't care who wins the NFC East. Who cares?
What matters is how far we make it into the Playoffs.
Seattle beware. Daddy is home and some kids need a spanking.

atlanta is out. minny needs to win tonight to stay in the hunt. assuming they win, here's the deal:

skins win, they're in with a wild card at the least. combine that with a giants loss, and we win the division.

skins lose, they need dallas and minny to lose just to secure the wildcard. if dallas wins and we lose, they're in.

i was hoping that dallas, minny and atlanta would all lose this weekend, so i could get a week off from the stress. but i guess the football gods are not so kind.

to be honest, i'm a bit worried about us having to go into philly and win, while dallas has the rams at home. with one fell swoop, the season could be over.

Well you should care who wins the division. Winning the division means hosting a playoff game. Would you rather have to play at NY or in Chicago, or have a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

We can still get the third seed if we win of course, Chicago loses tomorrow and next week (unlikely, they play Green Bay and Minny), and the Giants and Panthers also lose next week.

phili lost to the lowly cards today. nonetheless, we can ill afford being complacent. we cannot just march into phili with confident cockyness. we need to keep our eye on the ball. phili would like nothing better than to spoil our hopes to advance into the post season. we beat a very tough & proud team today. we showed that we can take anyone on even with some key injuries.

hail to the redskins.

I know that this is a "playoff" thread, and obviously we're fighting and hoping for a playoff spot, but even in a worst case scenario, this season has been a success. We will have a winning record in Joe Gibbs' second year back. We've beatend good quality teams, swept the Cowboys, and have opened the eyes of many football "experts". This team and it's 2005 season, which is by NO means over yet, has been a success.

Since this is Christmas morning and all.I was wondering would it be possible to face Dallas again in the playoffs!!!What would be better than getting to hand another lose to the cowpukes in the playoffs!!!That would be to awesome!!!

'nother scenario, for us to secure #1 Wildcard:
we win against iggles
Carolina loses to the Falcons

We have the same record as Carolina then, TB wins their division, if Dallas wins they are #2 wildcard assuming that the Giants beat oak.

Official: We can lose and be "in", if Cowboys lose

What a shocker!! The Vikings choke at the end of the season and, once again, lose a game (30-23) they needed to win to get into the playoffs!

What does that mean for the Redskins?

If the Cowboys lose next week against the Rams (don't hold your breath), the Redskins are in the playoffs...even if they lose in Philly. Unfortunately, the Cowboys game isn't until 8:30 p.m. next Sunday so, if by some freak accident or bad luck the Redskins lose, I'm sure we'll all be glued to our TVs Sunday night and be rooting our hearts out for the Rams!

The Redskins play first next week...so they know they'll have to play hard and, hopefully, not put their playoff hopes in the Cowboys' hands.

That's it folks, plain and simple.

I can't wait to eliminate them before they get on the field!

At least the Giants play on Saturday. Then we will know before the game on Sunday if we have a chance for the division. No matter what I still think the Philly game is a must win for us.

Agreed. Don't take any chances. Just win it and get it over with.

If 'Skins, NYG, Bucs, and Panthers all win ...

... if we all win 'Skins are the 6th seed and play at Tampa. Then we could set THAT all straight, huh?

On the other hand, if Panthers lose at Falcons while rest of us win, 'Skins are 5th seed and play at Giants one week later.

Would you rather play as a 6th seed at Tampa then hopefully at Seattle or would you rather play as a 5th seed at Giants again so soon and then hopefully at Chicago?

I'd kinda like to avenge the loss to the 'Bucs.

A cool ending would have us beating Carolina in the NFC title game at which point we could say we had beaten EVERY team in the NFC playoffs - Seattle, Chicago, and NY already followed by Tampa, Seattle again, then Carolina.

Finally, as a 5th seed, there is a remote chance of hosting the NFC title game.

We are riding on emotion and venging victories against teams that it didn't work out before.

Oh, I guarentee that Gibbs is talking about Oakland coming back and beating us.

Two division teams cannot play each other in the first round. The Redskins will have to play the winner of the NFC south division if they do not win the division.

OK,you strike up a good point.Sure it would be nice to have a home game but all I really want is to finally make the playoffs. What I hate though,is the fact that if we do get into the playoffs,I'd be heart broken if we can't go all the way and spoil the Colts wonderful year.

i think we could clobber the bucs, i'd rather play them.

i think we could clobber the bucs, i'd rather play them. it would not only atone for the absolute robbery earlier in the season, but the ridiculous botched FG attempt in '99 that should have won us that playoff game against them.

I won't tell you which team, but I will say this. They ought to have Matt Turk do the coin toss for 'em. :)
