Portis now has 1,296 rushing yards and is closing in on Stephen Davis's team record of 1,432 single-season rushing yards set in 2001. Portis needs just 137 yards in the Redskins' final two regular-season games.

Kudos also to Wingman for pointing out (in the gameday thread) that Portis is very close to 1300 yards for his first 4 seasons! As Wingman points out, this has only been done by Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders.

Portis is a very special RB.

Let's hope he stays healthy and raises the bar by breaking the record. Then he'll have a mark to shoot for next year.

CP is getting it done. It's not as flashy as it was in Denver but he's getting it done. It looks like Gibbs has somewhat figured out that running CP outside on sweeps or handing off to him off tackle is making a difference. Betts is the counter-up-the-gut guy that gives us the one-two punch we need.

Year three is looking good as long as Thomas and everybody else can get healthy and our team remains intact.

I'll be interested to see if he makes the Pro Bowl this week.

2 NFC spots will surely go to Alexander and Barber but Portis seems to be the frontrunner for the 3rd spot. Warrick Dunn could also be in the mix.

Well Portis is doing good this year, he has 8 rushing TDs and he didnt get one until the 49ers game. His YPC is up and his carries are down. Looks like he can get that team record and even 1500 yards. What suprises me the msot is that he turned 24 in September.

His blocking has been primo all season long, and it's evident that the running game is starting to run on all cylinders. I really hope he smashes the record. I loved Big Country, but Portis TOTALLY deserves it. 'He's worked his tail off!!
