Darrell Armstrong - Dallas Mavericks

Mavericks G Darrell Armstrong, an avid Washington Redskins fan, had some fun with the crowd in a pregame address. After wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season, he added, "How 'bout them Redskins!" Considering the Redskins had just beaten the Dallas Cowboys 35-7, there was a loud mixture of laughs and boos, even from German import Nowitzki. ... Likely among those booing Armstrong: Two fans wearing Cowboys jerseys and paper bags over their heads. ...

On SC, they just showed the highlights again and Scott Van Pelt said the Mavs fined him $1,000 for saying that.

I say we ante up and pay that fine. Screw the Mavs!!

DALLAS -- Mavericks guard Darrell Armstrong was so happy his beloved Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys that he grabbed a microphone before Sunday night's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and hollered, "How 'bout those Redskins!"

It's going to cost him $1,000.

Dallas coach Avery Johnson announced the fine during his postgame news conference and team owner Mark Cuban later verified it was legit, much to the chagrin of a disbelieving Armstrong. The money will all go to charity, with Johnson saying the Cowboys would decide the recipient.

The Redskins wrapped up a 35-7 victory over the Cowboys shortly before the Mavericks left the locker room to play the Timberwolves.

As part of the pregame ceremonies, guard Devin Harris wished the crowd a happy holiday. Then Armstrong, who wasn't scheduled to speak, asked for the microphone. He added his holiday wishes, then made his fine-inducing proclamation, a twist on a famous line by former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson.

A mixture of laughter and boos followed, even from German import Dirk Nowitzki. Cuban laughed, too, and joked with Armstrong about it when he returned to the bench.

I understand why they did it though. You are in Dallas where the fans are naturally going to be Cowboys and Mavericks fans. You can't have a player on your team angering the fanbase.

Think about if one of the Wizards had said something like that at MCI center after a Dallas win.

Yup, its a free country and the 1rst Amenment recognizes our right to free speech. But you can also pay for it too.

Check out what a Dallas Maverick did during a game.

Ive been a Mavericks fan ever since they have had Dirk Nowitzki because he is my favorite player in the NBA but after seeing what Darrell Armstrong did last night after the Redskins killed the Cowpukes I have become Armstrong's #1 fan. "I just want to wish everyone a safe and happy holidays, and HOW BOUT THEM REDSKINS"
