I say we sign him during the offseason for cheap and see if he can be our tall reciever. If not cut him before the season starts. He got 5 TDs and over 600 yards as our no. 2 with our horrible offense.

Wow. What a waste of raw talent this guy was/is.
You've got to be kidding about resigning him. It'll never happen...besides, we can do much better. We don't need tall....we just need another playmaker.

If Gardner got this far in life without a work ethic (I mean, I completely agree with TH here: what a waste of raw talent!), then he's not going to suddenly learn it in the NFL. The man is in his later 20's, he probably still believes that he's a playmaker, and signing him back to the Redskins would only stroke the ego. We'd be the team that would come crawling back to the tall/big WR that we traded.
Besides, some other team is bound to pick him up, even if it's only for the vet. minimum. As much as I'd love to have a guy with Gardner's physical attributes on our WR list, he's just not a hard worker. Unfortunately for him, that translates on the field despite his strength, quickness, etc.

What if he comes crawling back? A contrite Gardner willing to work his butt off??? Could be promising, and relatively inexpensive. Never say never -- not that I condone re-signing him.

Yeah, if he comes back and works his butt off, why not? Like I posted he got 5 TDs and over 600 yards during his last year here, so even as a third WR that could be useful.

Sure, if he comes crawling back it might be worth it to sign him. But it will never happen. Why approach the Redskins with promises of 'working harder than last time' when you can sell yourself to (now) 30 teams with the promise of being a playmaker? It takes less humility, for a low price tag there will be plenty of teams willing to bite, and he won't have to come back to the Washington locker-room (having bad-mouthed our playcalling) with half the pay and half the pride.
But
if he's willing to come back and work hard, I don't see why we couldn't take him

funny. you don't see anymore of the 'keep rod' or 'gardner is going to shine elsewhere' posts anymore.

NOWAY!! Rod was cut for things he did off the field and things he didn't do on the field! Be glad it's over!

I am a firm believer that, sooner or later, life puts everybody in its rightful place. Whether one starts with a silver spoon in its mouth or in a humble barn, we all end up ripping the benefits/wrath of our own labour.
I really believe it is only a matter of time. He is ending up where he deserves to be. It would take a complete transformation to change now and the NFL is not gentle in older ages anyway.

One picture I'll never forget about is that one of Rod Gardner catching the ball with his wrists.................I'm just glad that we were able to get a sixth round pick for him. I bet the Carolina GM feels like a freakin idiot right now.
By the way, anyone know if Patten has finished the year with more catches then Rod? I really want to know.

I'd say the chances are about 50-50. :-"
Just kidding. Come on people, this is the guy who told Joe gibbs he didn't want to play for him this year. I think it's going to take more than 'settling for a small contract' to bring Rod Gardner back to Washington.
50/50 Cut...

See yah Rod... Panthers released Gardner.
So here we go, dude will end up playing for five to six different teams during his NFL career. Once again, a guy with wasted potential... and again a 1st round Redskin that did not stay with the the team and bounces around the league... how many does this make?

ok, those stats seem ok by themselves, but they aren't taking in the whole picture. how about these stats?
DROPPED PASSES: 18 million
YARDS THAT WOULD/SHOULD HAVE BEEN GAINED ON THOSE PASSES: 219 million
DRIVES ENDED BY HIM DROPPING IT ON 3rd DOWN: 12 million
ESTIMATED YARDS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GAINED ON THE REST OF THOSE DRIVES IF GARDNER HADN'T RUINED THEM: 567 million
there is no question that gardner was a
detriment to this team in terms of gaining yards, not an asset.
and that is to say nothing of his attitude, work ethic, etc, which are all clearly supremely subpar.

I'll be taking a trip down to our local DIY/home improvement store later. I'm expecting to see Rod down there in a nice new uniform. I may even let him help me carry the stuff to the car.
I may build a life size working model of him. I'll be needing some wood for his hands, and maybe some straw for the heart...

Name any other WR on our roster who is healthy who comes close to his numbers. Farris? Jacobs? Brown?

Listen. We're going to have to do it without Rod. There's a reason he was traded, and there's a reason he was cut.
He's not cut out for the grind of a 16 game season. He's got the attitude of a Prima Donna, but not the looks.
He's one of those guys who is reall just "potentially" good. He's barely serviceable.
He's done. His days here are over, and he'll wind up somewhere like Houston, the Jets or San Diego.
