Portis

This may have been discussed elsewhere (my apologies if it has) but during the Rams game I thought I heard something about Portis leading the league in runs called back due to holds. That may have been said in jest but I don't find it too difficult to believe. I'm wondering if it is possible to quantify that stat.

Actually I think CP was saying that about himself, when he was interviewed earlier in the week... I dont think anyone really looked into it but him... he had been a little fustrated...
which he should be, it's annoying to get so many runs called back.

File this under questions to which I assume the answer is NO, but: Is there any place which might keep track of penalties and the types of penalties?
I am a Portis fan, always have been, always will be (I did quite a bit of research during the trade talks, one of my best posts to toot my own ... er, straw) and I'd like to have another way to argue that I feel he is both underrated and under-utilized

I believe that!
Everytime Portis gets a carry over 20 yards, it's holding on Dockery, Jacobs, Thomas... but the worst part is that the holding calls are totally irrelevant to the run itself.

Not only are they irrelevant but Gibbs has sent some of the calls in to the league and found that a lot of the penalties should have never been called...

Except for Rabach at the end of the Raiders game. he tackled the D-Lineman as he approached the hole.

I hate to say it but I have had it with these "bogus" calls! Way too often the call is made away from the play and while it is the "correct" call it did not affect the play - this happens to us way too much, IMO! I think that sometimes the call is made just because of the old adage "you can call holding on every play" and replays will for the most part support it - soooo.. it's the Redskins and we know that some of these people have an agenda against us! I have seen too many calls go against us in critical situations to think that it is anything else - We just have to live with it - it is what it is!
Last week some "phantom calls" were definetly made to 'help' the NY media darlings! They better not try that stuff in our town!

I agree but I think that it is even more stupid on the part of our linemen to be committing these penalties that, as you said, don't affect the play. IMO, this is more a lack of awareness and discipline than the refs trying to get us (though they do). These guys have to pay more attention to what's going on around them. Don't commit the penalty in the first place PARTICULARLY if the guy you're holding is out of the play. That is just retarded.
