I know some of you don't like Tony K but check what he says about Baldinger in his article today... Nice defense of the skins and Gibbs.

That's "T.K. Stack-Money"!!! Seriously, though, even though Baldinger is an 'idiot' most of the time, Joe Gibbs has to get just a little more aggressive on offense. I don't think that the game has passed him by yet. Maybe his conservative nature is due to his lack of confidence in what he has on the field. Maybe he just doesn't have his guys yet.
It is hard to imagine that Joe Gibbs has lost it when in the past he had the best WR corps in football. I know that his staple is running but there are alot of highlights of Monk, Clark, Sanders, Brown, etc. catching bombs or catching passes and taking them to the house.

i agree... but baldinger is a jerk and he seems to pick on the skins alot... just nice to see Tony K see the same thing as us and finally say something about it.

I think this may be true to an extent. Since Gibbs came in the talent level has increased. I also think a lot of it is execution though. I think many of the guys have bought into the system but I still think it takes some time to maximize their potential. Gibbs has done so much with guys like Sellers to put them in good positions and use their strengths but in order to really dominate in this offense each player has to achieve a high level of excellence and consistency. I think this team needs just a little more talent and time to really become a top team in the NFL. Right now we are good but we can get a lot better.

Truly, I don't think he's picking on us. He's just saying what he sees.
Now yes, some of his comments were negative, but can you blame him? I mean he's right, in today's NFL you need over 20 points to win most games, and obviously our previous tactic wasn't working.
But Baldinger did have some nice stuff to say about Sean Taylor and the defense.

Just for fun I ran some statistics: In 1988 there were a total of 28 NFL teams that scored a combined 9141 points during the season. That means, on average, a team scored 20.40 points per game. In 1996 there were 30 NFL teams that scored a combined 9805 points, for an average of 20.43 per game. In 2004 there were 32 NFL teams that scored a combined 11,000 points, for an average of 21.48 points per game.

Yeah, but that stat combines the scores of
all the NFL teams, including the Browns, Ravens, Texans... all the teams that don' score, and end up sucking.

Point taken, but there are always teams that don't score and end up sucking. I'm just not so sure that I believe that the game has changed so much over the last 20 years that nowadays you need a lot more points to win than you did before.

patjam - you have to know that Tony K is an entertainer and as such he earns his money (mostly) by saying stuff that is ridiculous. This guy has as much credibility as a WWF performer!! I take that back, he has less! I love him but he does not say
anything on air that is not a calculated statement - "trust me"

It was nice seeing TK's reference to our girlfriend Sally Jenkins. Pretty nice dig on her. Props

oh really? some of what you say may be true but you miss the point. whether he is "entertaining" or being serious, he was STILL defending gibbs... and isnt that what you guys do on here everyday? he's a columnist for a worldwide known newspaper... i think he has some shred of creditbility.

Sorry patjam! I understand what you are saying and I appreciate any "good" press etc but I am just saying that as far as I'm concerned these media and "press" guys should not be taken seriously whether it's good or bad - they are being paid to ensure that what they say is "good for the hand that feeds them" and in most cases it does not matter one little bit about the facts of the matter. His credibility is not as important as keeping up the "Tony K" charade.
Hey I enjoy Tony K. - I'm just pointing this out, no big deal. One other thing - he's not a stupid jerk, well, you get the picture!
I also really do appreciate how good a job Gibbs and Williams are doing this year and I for one am very pleased that we are still very much in the race for the NFC East and the playoffs. I mean not long ago there were some here who thought our season was done and now are being forced to grudgingly admit that maybe even with this team we might not only be in the playoffs but win the NFC EAST!!! I know we are not that good or even "good" but we are better than anybody else in the NFC East - The present NFC East leaders' QB, Eli, had a 27.4 rating, at home, last week.
One more "W" this week.

Personally, I think TK has ripped the Skins too much, particularly Joe, since Gibbs' return to believe that all of a sudden he "stands up" for Joe. He wonders what entitles Baldinger to rip Gibbs, when he himself is guilty of doing the same thing. Sure, it's Tony's shtick to do that kinda crap, but this sounds, to me, like the pot calling the kettle black.

I don't understand the "untouchability" of Gibbs. This team has been a disappointment for the past many weeks. Gibbs is the HC and should take the heat. I'm very happy he's there, but the proof's in the puddin' as they say.
That said, I wonder if his "conservatism" isn't due partly to execution. Nobody would be calling him conservative if we ran like this past week all year. And his glory days of big pass plays were possible because of the stud backs and man-eating O-lines he had. Instead of run-run-pass-punt it would be run-run-"first down"-run-BOMBS AWAY!!!! and the fun bunch dancing in the endzone.
I think we'll be there again.....
