Curious who you all think is the best overall Sports Announcer/ Analyst.
If your choice is not here, feel free to add him or her in.
If I had to pick 'Overall' I would go with Costas simply because he has done the Olympics, Tennis, NBA, NFL so for verstaility I go with him.
Al Michaels has the best play by play for the NFL.
Marv Albert is the best NBA sports caster by far.

Pat Summerall among the guys above. But the list is FAR from complete if you ask me. You left A LOT of great radio guys out. Maybe you are too young to know that.

Cosell, to me, was the most recognizable...by voice or otherwise. My vote went there.
"Jockacracy" be damned. He never meant to demean "that little monkey".

1. Arch McDonald
Baseball Hall of Fame, 1999
http://bioproj.sabr.org/bioproj.cfm?a=v ... &pid=18878
First radio broadcaster for the Senators and probably for the Redskins. He called Nats away games from a studio downtown where he read a ticker and created the whole imaginary scene for listeners. My Dad says he would hit a bell when some got a hit.
Died of a heart attack on the train back from New York after broadcasting a Redskins - Giants game. They had tied the Giants, in the first game I remember (being 11 or 12) when the Giants didn't slaughter the Redskins.
"Post columnist Bob Addie wrote, "He was a man full of laughter whose echoes will never end as long as his friends survive."
Two days later Addie reported, "One of the most impressive sights I ever saw was the entire Redskins squad lined up as honorary pallbearers when the body of Arch McDonald was carried to the hearse for its last long journey."
Yes, we had one of those radio magicians, like Red Barber, here in Washington.
2. Bob Wolff
Baseball Hall of Fame 1995

Broadcast Nats games with McDonald. Still active, incredibly, as a sports broadcaster on Long Island.
"Vernon in the batter's box, Nats down by a run with two out in the ninth, and Roy Sievers hopin' to get up".

I assume you mean the best American sports announcer of all time?
You seem to have missed Dan Maskell (tennis), Richie Benaud (cricket), Bill McLaren (rugby union) and Peter Allis (golf) off of the list.
Putting my transatlantic head back on, I will never get the sound of Frank Herzog saying "Touchdown, Washington Redskins" out of my head. Pure poetry.
