Odd Rumor - Randy Thomas to the Jets????

I never heard this one before, is Randy Thomas not doing good or something?
Early word out of San Diego is that veteran QB Drew Brees will stay and second-year pro Philip Rivers could be had -- for the right price. For the Jets, that price could be three-time Pro Bowl DE John Abraham.
In a possible precursor to moving Rivers this off-season, the Chargers yesterday acquired QB A.J. Feeley from the Dolphins just before the trading deadline. San Diego also received a sixth-round pick. The Chargers want a capable backup behind Brees before dealing Rivers.
Also, there are rumblings that Abraham could be involved in a deal for Redskins QB Patrick Ramsey. Either G Randy Thomas or disgruntled LB LaVar Arrington could be packaged along with Ramsey.
The NFL trading deadline ended yesterday at 4 p.m.
Trade rumors are already swirling around Abraham because seven weeks into the season the Jets are no closer to signing him to a long-term deal than they were when he reported to training camp after a long holdout, according to someone with knowledge of the situation.
Rivers and Ramsey are likely on the Jets' short list in their search for a potential franchise quarterback to challenge Chad Pennington and his twice surgically repaired shoulder in training camp next summer. Of course, the Jets could also draft a quarterback or acquire one via free agency.
The Chargers, who have already paid Rivers $14.5 million in bonuses, are said to be looking for a veteran starter and cash in exchange for Rivers, whose base salary is only $615,000 in 2006. One of their biggest needs is a pass-rusher and Abraham could be their guy.
San Diego, however, would have to pay Abraham a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $20 million and it may balk at that.
Money, however, is no object for Redskins owner Daniel Synder. He and the Jets have done business in the past (WR Santana Moss for WR Laveranues Coles this past off-season). Also, the Redskins signed Jets free agents Coles, Thomas, John Hall and Chad Morton.
The Redskins are looking to jettison Ramsey and Arrington, and the Jets would likely welcome Thomas back for their shaky offensive line. Even before center Kevin Mawae (torn tricep) was hurt, the Jets were in the market for a guard.

Personally, I think Randy Thomas has been the most consistent linemen on the team since we got him. There are certainly no better guards on our team.

This what I was thinking. I believe also that he's been more consistent than <gasp> "Mr. Sammels".
I think our weak link is LG, not to throw this off topic. I think it'd be a mistake to let go of him.

Other than being a good lineman, he's a great person. He's one of the friendliest people I talked to. I met him at FedEx on Draft Day, he was really nice. Signed by hat and took a picture with me.

Neither of which could handle a rookie on Sunday.

lmao, what a stupid rumor. Of all our lineman, Randy Thomas and Jansen(when healthy) are irreplaceable. Wonder why you never hear his name while watching a game?....

I completely agree. I doubt Buges would let him go... I can see the Ramsey/Arrington trade but nothing that includes Thomas. He's a great guy on and off the field.

Jared Allen is a second year player. He had a good rookie year as well. It was nice hosting DEHog this past weekend. I'm sure he went home a couple of lbs. heavier from all we ate. I felt bad that we sent him home with a loss........naaaa, not really.

Yep, I agree with you. I think Randy Thomas is a stud.

I think that we would pay some signing bonus if we had to send him away and with Arrington also. I don't think so.

Is this a rumor for at the end of the season?

Well in that case it's OK
Let's see how he does the rest of the season? I just think we made a average player look very probowlish.
When can I come back?

Trading Ramsey AND Thomas for Abraham would be one of the dumbest trades in the history of the NFL. Our O-line is just getting their groove back...who they gonna put in there...Ray Brown? We'd eventually be looking for a new QB in that scenario since Brunell would be running for his life every single drop back.

Not to start a fuss, but I think our OL is seriously overrated. At least amongst our fan base. I've been thoroughly disappointed in their play. I haven't seen anything to suggest that our OL is one of the better OLs in the league. With names like Samuels, Jansen and Thomas and a coach like Buges you'd think it should be.

if it mattered how good of a person you were than the nfl would be a different game with different starters for every nfl team. This is business if we get a deal we unload a player no matter how good of a guy he is.
Thomas may be "indespensable" but making a big move is something that i think this team needs to give us a spark to get to that next level.
those are my two cents....i really hope jimoh stays hes such a good guy!

That is a no brainer deal. Definitely take Abraham for Ramsey or Thomas....Thomas is not indispensable.
Arrington for Abraham and a 1st day draft pick might also make sense.

I have no faith whatsoever in rumours but this one is particuarly stupid. Why in god's name would the Redskins trade a solid offensive lineman (who is crucial to the team's success) PLUS a fairly reliable and, more importantly, cheap backup QB or a petulant but unquestionably talented linebacker for ONE player?
No logic whatsoever, I PROMISE this won't happen

This trade would make no sense for all the reasons Fios posted.
Thomas is one of the best guards in the league and Ramsey is a cheap, solid backup.

Oh, I read the article wrong. The trade would not make sense to package Ramsey and Thomas, but if we would swing the deal just for Ramsey, that would benefit both teams. Abraham would be a beast. Arrington for Abraham would also be a good trade. My personal opinion is that Arrington is the superior player, but if we are going to release him we still have to take the cap hit, and we get nothing in return. Abraham would be better than nothing.

Randy Thomas is a solid guard, but I don't think he's a great fit with what we need to do on offense. With a back like Portis, it would be nice to have more athleticism on the o-line. Moving Thomas to get a legit pash rusher, and replacing him with a younger, quicker guard would be an impressive move i think. In fact, I was hoping that the skins would have traded for Todd Fonoti from the Chargers, in order to make this move.
To be honest, depending on what happens with lavar over the remainder of the season, I think we must get a pash rusher, no matter what...through the draft, off our bench, through a trade, or on free agency, it's been way too long since the Redskins could count on pressure from their front 4...

Well, I feel this would not be a good trade for the Redskins if they included Randy Thomas in the deal they lose a key piece of the offensive line and a good solid backup Qb and gain a good pass rusher but at the moment GW seems to like containment on the line with the big guys up front when all healthy and get the LB's and Secondary to make the plays so as good as Abraham is just does not seem a good fit into GW's scheme. As for Fonoti, I would not like a guy on my line who cannot break into Marty's front 5, if he is not good enough for Marty and the Chargers he is certainly not good enough for Gibbs and the Redskins

I don't see why Ramsey would be here at the end of the year. Either we are going to get rid of him this year and get value for him or he is going to become a free agent and we won't pay him the bucks.
Im not sure, but it is obivious to me now that an upgrade at DE would be good for us, Daniels and Wynn have not been consistent in their pressure. Griffin and Springs are our best pass rushers, and that is pretty sad when the DE's are supposed to rush the passer.
