Question about Eastern-style toilets

I was reading an article about these, about how they're actually better than the "throne shaped" toilets because having your knees bent up to your chest actually opens the "pipes" up better, and actually reduces the risk of colon cancer, but it occurred to me...

What happens when you get old and arthritisy and you can't sit like that? Or if you injure your leg? How do you go potty? Do you just sit flat on the hole? How do you get up and down?

I mean, there's no way I could have used an Eastern style toilet two months ago.

Discuss.

depends. no, really, the adult diaper depends. you just go, and worry about the mess later. :)

At least it's better than the system they have in Crete, Greece. You can't flush your "freshly used" toilet paper. Their antiquated plumbing is too small and clogs easily. Soooooo, you just wipe, and toss it in a trash can that sits less than 2 feet from you.
