Thoughts On Carlos Rogers Thus Far?

Wsup Skins Fans

Longtime Chiefs fan here. I was wondering what you guys' take is on Carlos Rogers, your #1 overall pick, after four games. Going into the draft, it was known KC needed help in the secondary. Many KC fans just weren't sure if that help would come via draft or by a trade with the Dolphins for Patrick Surtain. Well , the rest is history but I was a fan of Rogers coming out of Auburn and was hoping he might land in KC. Chiefs came away with star longhorn OLB Derrick Johnson. However, I'm still curious to know how Rogers has looked thus far as I haven't watched any redskin football at all other than a couple of pre-season games where Rogers looked good. So Any regular season impressions of him that you guys can give would be much appreciated. Thanks.

PS

Awesome Front Page

Rogers is being brought up in a complicated system. That being said, he's played darn well given his time in and the position. I'm seeing good things coming from that young man.

You should be more worried about Sean Taylor, though.

He is a rookie and therefore has made some rookie mistakes. His first start was a little shaky, but yesterday he was a stud. And he is doing great with the run support, a reason why the Skins drafted him. I'm sure there is no regret in drafting him, especially if you look at the two other corners taken above him. One is injured and the other is not playing extremely well and is in legal trouble. (In fact, fans in Tennesee booed "Pac-man" last week)

Carlos is playing great!

Yeah, of those three...Rolle, Rogers, Jones...I felt Rogers had the most upside as an NFL corner. I thought he'd be 2nd one taken, if not the first one off the board. he has the ideal combination of size and speed. Best of all I liked his mentality.

And you really can't go wrong with the best CB from as rugged a conference as the SEC which has produced MANY Pro bowl/Hall of Fame caliber defensive prospects over the last 18 yrs or so....including Chiefs great OLB Derrick Thomas.

Hey, welcome Saga. He didn't start the first two games and he's only doing so now because Harris is injured so there isn't a great deal to comment on yet. It's the typical Gregg Williams thing, he likes bringing rookies along slowly. He has made a couple mistakes but overall I am really impressed. He is fast and can cover but his run support is what has been really impressive so far. Finally, he and our fourth corner, Ade Jimoh, managed to hold Denver to just 95 yds in the air yesterday so they are definately filling in nicely for Springs and Harris.

What's going on here,

I think we're surprised to be visited by reasonably intelligent and polite fans from other teams. Maybe that comes from having too many Cowboy and Eagle fans hanging around...and a few snearing Jet fans, too.

If not "great", I'll give him "very, very good". Mighty close to "great", in fact.

Actually DT wasn't eligible to be inducted into the HOF until last year. He was a finalist but didn't make the cut. Hopefully he can get in this year.

Of course Derrick Thomas was a great. There's no question about that in my mind.

As for Rogers, he is a very talented guy with tremendous potential but he is green. I think he'll end up being a Pro Bowl CB, but I think the Chiefs can take advantage of him in this game, especially with short passes and throws underneath. He is tough in the run game tho, much tougher than Freddie Smoot was.

Why couldnt you guys beat the freakin Eagles last week? That pissed me right off.

Call it homerism if you'd like but I'd say Derrick Thomas was, in fact, great. You don't become a HOF finalist if you aren't wdiely regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.

TOTALLY agree about the SEC.

Good to see an honest, polite KC fan. I, too, wished you woulda stomped those stupid eagles. It was on its way to happen......what a nightmare game, eh?

lol! That pissed me off too, man. Why did the Chiefs lose? Theres a myriad of reasons but IMO it comes down to poor protection of the football. 2 ints and pair of fumbles. You can't expect to beat a team of the Eagles caliber by giving them 4 extra opportunities to beat you.

He is going to be a BIG contributor here in Washington for a while. Hell of a tackler!

I think you are confusing their new linebacker Derrick Johnson with their alltime great(and he was) Derrick Thomas, who should make the HOF.

I don't call it homerism. I call D. Thomas and Junior Seau the very best LB's in the era after Lawrence Taylor, and Thomas was better than Seau.
