I'm just curious as to what platforms you guys prefer, I am a diehard Playstation fan but wasn't sure how the 2 stack up agasinst each other. I probably will still by the PS3 when it comes out but i just wanted to know what everyone else prefers and plays. From what i have read so far they both excel in different areas.

Im getting a 360 and PS3.

I prefer the playstation brand because almost all 3rd parties games come out for the PS 1st. The dual shock 2 was the best controller of this current generation and since Im a rabid sports fan I had to have the PS2 for sports games.

The Xbox got my money because it had beautiful games.

Nintendo didn't because I dont like playing crap like nintendogs.

Xbox 360 will hold me over till the PS3 comes out. The PS3 will be the stronger of the 2 systems and I'll get it for eye candy and its exclusive games.

Xbox Live is one thing that MS has that Sony doesn't.

One of the reasons I'm not that interested in the x-box is the lack of quality games. Sure they look great but any PS be it 2 or 3 just has better quality games and more of them.

Well I got Xbox for the splinter cell series and Halo 1 and 2. I got a cheap refurbished Xbox and those games have done me well.

I've always like the splinter cell series but i've enjoyed the Metal Gear series alot more. I like the fact that it isn't as straight forward as the splinter cell games. I've never played Halo although i've heard they rock.

right now the playstation will have more games ..it's been out or around longer and i think CLL will agree the xbox has taken huge steps to gain on playstation ....i love my xbox and i will have an xbox 360

Playstation3 = Blu-Ray HD media, two HDMI out, 1080p capability

Xbox360 = standard DVD (at least right now)

So, if you have a High Def TV, you'll want a PS3 even if you are in love with the Xbox, IMO. Xbox will need some killer games (and Xbox Live integration) to out-do Sony on this one, I think.

Huge? I wouldn't say huge. Sony still owns 50%+ of the market share but MS has definately made themself a mainstay.

However the ONLY reason MS survived is because of its deep pockets, I dont have the reports on my PC but you wouldn't believe how much money the loss on each xbox.

OK, at first I thought XBOX 360 was cool, but that was just because I had never played it.

So I go to the local game store today and they have a demo of Call of Duty 360, so I start playing it.

No joke, it was the craziest thing I've ever had control of. I mean it was a freaking video game, but it was the most intense thing I've ever done!

It was amazing, now I don't know if it was 400$ amazing, but it was amazing.

xbox360 vs. PS3?

well, right now it's:

reality (if you can get one) vs. future promises

I wonder how much of what's promised for the PS3 won't materialize.

It does seem strange to me that the xbox360 doesn't even support DVI or HDMI output at all, and MS has supposedly said that the games will always be standard dual-layer DVD, even if they were to add an HD-DVD drive it would just be for movies.

Wut didn't materialize for the PS2? I hope you're not going to say they didn't achieve the quality shown in the tech demos because I got the stuff to prove it right here.

I'm sorry, but if you're referring to demos such as the "final fantasy old man head" demo and the ridge racer girl, and the Final Fantasy VII ballroom scene demo, and the the GT3 demo, then the PS2 has surpassed those demos long ago - alot of launch software looks better than those demos did, the demos had jaggies galore!!

You'll see at the bottom where MS lied about a tech demo that was actually CG. They released the demo running in realtime and it looked like trash.

Argument "Meeting Tech Demo Expectations" 3.0 Summary

I. Entry Accusation - "What are your expectations for next-gen, anyway!?"

-------1. Point out how no jump will ever be as big as the PSX to PS2, or SNES to PSX.
-------2. Explain how expectations need to be reeled back.

II. Escalation Expectation - "I think Killzone is what I expect from next-gen."

---A. "That's bull. No game next-gen will ever reach that level."
-------1. Point out motion blur.
-------2. Point out perfect curves.
----------a. In case of Gears of War pic rebuttal, point out edges.
----------b. In case of Gears of War pic rebuttal, call person an idiot.
-------3. Point out advanced, multilayered AI routines.
---B. "It's just standard SCEE propaganda. They're liars!"
-------1. Use Getaway as example.
-------2. Use Killzone again as example.
---C. "Really, plenty of people have already established it's not real-time."
-------1. Use sources from various G4 interviews.
-------2. Use sources from IGN/Gamespot.

III. Memories of the Past - "It's no surprise. PS2 tech demos were all bull as well."

---A. "What? How many times do we have to go through this argument!?"
-------1. Explain how shocked and awed you are if possible.
-------2. Use hyperbole to highlight how stupid you feel this is.
-------3. Use the emoticon countless times.
---B. "Unbelievable. Have you seen the PS2 tech demos? Been surpassed!"
-------1. Use Silent Hill 3 "old man" pic.
-------2. Compare GT2000 to GT4.
----------a. Point out PSX era bitmaps
----------b. Hideous aliasing
-------3. Compare FFBallroom to FFX.
---C. "Yeah, the Raven Xbox demo wasn't surpassed! But Microsoft gets no crap for that!"

Nice, thats why I like to read your posts CLL you get all the info and prove your point.
Did you see the shots from Metal Gear Solid 4, they are sweet. I saw them in an issue of PSM and if i read correctly they were gameplay shots.

Hey CLL I got a question.

You know how the normal XBOX could burn CD's to its Hard Drive. Well can the 360 Burn "Burned" CD's to its Hardrive?

The point is, the xbox exists right now, the ps3 exists in proposed tech specs. Not really a good basis for comparison. Two 1080p outputs? That's great, except for there not being very many 1080p capable sets in existence, and for the fact that HDMI isn't even rated to 1080p yet. see my point? In six months, we will be able to compare the systems. That's all!

So what though? The 360 was vaporware until a month ago also, what is your basis for thinking Sony wont deliver? Some of the stuff you mentioned I believe is pointless to have also but that has nothing to do with what the system was made for.

The CELL, and RSX are beasts. Hideo Kojima even said albeit in jest that the CELL would be the key to winning the next generation console wars.

When did I say Sony wouldn't deliver? Hello? Is this thing on? Reading comprehension much?

All I did was prove that Sony has delivered wut it has promised in the past. So I think I understood you pretty well.

Fellas, fellas, fellas! Calm down! You both sound like a couple of 13 year old fan boys!

I own an Xbox 360 and I love it. It looks outstanding in HD. The controller is SO much improved and the wireless aspect is such a great innovation. I know it's been done before but not like MS has done it. The entire interface is top notch. I have COD2, Madden and Perfect Dark Zero. Call of Duty 2 is one of the best games I've ever played. It didn't "get" me like the first Halo did when it was released but its definitely a game that I'll play through each difficulty level. I'm also close to five years older and I'm sure that has something to do with it. Halo, Goldeneye (N64) and Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) were the only games that ever had that effect on me. I had to master them 100%. I want games like that now and honestly there hasn't been anything like that since Ninja Gaiden a couple years ago. That statement includes the PS2. I was very dissappointed with Halo 2. The story, not the online multiplayer component.

I want and expect games that encompass every aspect of previous gen games. Itemization, 1st, over the shoulder and 3rd person perspectives, upgradable everything and lifelike AI and graphics. As far as sports games I'm really disappointed that EA or any other sports game developer hasn't created a game that will let you play a full season, keep stats, etc. online. Whats up with that?

I read my current events in regards to computer technology. At least what is relevant to me. The cell chip, as I said over the summer (but I think I called it the triad chip) will revolutionize close to everything. It's a very big collaboration between huge companies. It WILL be big for its creators. The only problem with it is that it runs too hot and it cannot be contained in the size of a home console at this point. Right now it would certainly melt the plastic that will surround it. Regardless of what you see, read or hear, why would you believe in the supposed power of a machine until you actually see a gameplay image with a HUD (Heads Up Display) somewhere within it?

The truth is, I haven't seen one single solitary screen that I believe is an actual gameplay shot for PS3. You can post as many images as you want but until I see that HUD, it's not an actual gameplay shot.

Over the summer (I believe it was you Chris) someone posted images of what next gen graphics were supposed to be capable of. There was one image of a truck that looked like a photograph. I remember sending the image to friends and having to explain that it was a computer generated image of what next gen was capable of. There is no way that any game coming out in the next 10 to 15 years will have a truck that looks like that along with a moving city behind it and a playable character running around. If you're expecting something along those lines right now, you will be disappointed.

There are a few games I'm really waiting for. Ghost Recon, Gears of War, Madden 07, Tiger 07, Fable 2, Elder Scrolls 4, Ninja Gaiden 2, Splinter Cell 4 and a few other games here and there.

XBox360 vs. PS3. Here is a take from a developer who all of you seem to enjoy.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/676/676685p1.html

From a graphical and gameplay standpoint it looks like both of them are top notch. Why wouldn't they be? As far as a gaming library standpoint, if you like Xbox games buy an Xbox360. If you like PS2 games, buy a PS3. If you like both, buy both. The truth is, big developers who made great games solely for the PS2 are now making games for the Xbox360 because it's easier to develop games within a PC framework. The Xbox and the Xbox360 are essentially muscled up PC's.

Will the PS3 be good? Yes. Does the controller look like a weapon that Christian Bale will use in his next Batman film? Yes. Is the hardware finished and does it have an actual anticipated release date? No. To wait or not wait, that is the question.
