Anyone surprised?

Anyone else surprised the skins didn't take the penalty at the end of the 2nd quarter?

The skins were 1st and goal at the 2. The Seahawks got a 12 men on the field penalty, and the Skins declined it. They felt better with 2nd and goal at the 1/2 yard line rather than 1st and goal at the 1. I thought it was a no-brainer to take the penalty.

That was definately baffling, but it ended up not mattering.

Like the guy in front of me said after we missed our oppurtunity to score from the 1/2 yard line on 2nd down: "we were supposed to score on that one."

On the note of penalties, does anyone realize that we have the fourth fewest amount of penalties in the league. Of course that number is a little distorted because of our bye week, but it is still an accomplishment.

i was also quite puzzled by us not accepting that penalty. i'm sure it would have been "half the distance to the goal", which would have been pretty close to where we advanced the ball anyway, right? and then we'd have a whole new set of downs.

that made no sense at all... I thought maybe Joe thought is was so close they could just sneak it in... funny thing was we lost yardage on the next play and ended up 3rd and goal from the 1, instead of 1st and goal from the 1...

I think it was a coaching error to not take that penalty. I bet there was some confusion on what was happening there. You would always trade a half yard for an extra down everytime.

Didn't we score on that series??? :hmm:

I guess Joe knew what he was doing.

It would have been nice to have taken the penalty and then pounded it in. But, not only did we score anyway, but we won the game. So I can't complain too much. :)

Guys. It's OK to question a coaching decision. Even if we aren't coaches. Really

Reid didn't activate a kicker and Akers got hurt. I question the move. SOmetimes coaches make mistakes. Doesn't Gibbs question his own decisions and own up to making a mistake?

Gibbs after the win over the cowpukes wrote:"Two of the sacks were situations where we didn't get the alignment the way we wanted, so that was my fault."

Nah, I just actually couldn't remember. I thought Gibbs would take the penalty, as well, but I couldn't fond a reason not to. Perhaps he was trying to make the stats look prettier for his team??? I have no idea.

On WTEM yesterday, Joe said they expected the ball to be spotted on the 1/2 yard line (not on the 1)...
