O-line

What a game last night! However, the performance of our o-line was really pathetic!

Brunell got sacked five times, hit at least four others, and on every running play there were at least two Cowboys in the backfield before the RB had even gotten the ball. Say what you will about the Cowboys D but this was really an awful performance.

After the preseason I thought these guys would just run over people. They were decent in the Bears game but lets not forget our starting QB was knocked out of the game on our third possession.

The bottom line is, these guys should be able to hold their own no matter who we play. They really disappointed me last night.

Let's step it up guys, we're relying on you to carry this team! I hope they can sort something out over the bye week and then come out and dominate again. They should be much better than what they have shown thus far.

The victory was tremendous, but I share your concern. They were consistently getting to our QB whether they rushed 3, 4, or more. They didn't have to blitz, their d-line beat the crap out of our o-line. How could that be? On paper we are great, could it be scheme?

i'm definitely concerned as well. i wasn't paying attention to where the rush was coming from, maybe jansen's thumbs contributed to the problem?

Don't know where the weakness is in the line either. Jansen, Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, #77. I know Dockery was called a few times for false starts. We have 12 penalties over all. I think Dallas was just blitzing a lot. We have two weeks to figure it out.

Yo, we gotta give credit where credit is due.. Those ugly fans came to support there squad, and they turned that hole-in-the-ground stadium into a hostile, and deafening environment. True the line had difficulty executing early in the game, but, in the clutch, they game Brunell enough time to lead the team back from the 13-0 deficit.

Nothing ill cure the line's woes like playing at home, and receiving there heroes' welcome.

WE BEAT DALLAS!!!

Hey didn't you guys hear? We won, that's ALL that matters! Talk of concern is pure herecy!
j/k - I think we have lots of work to do and Samuels had an awful night. Always room for improvement.

That Dallas D-line is no pile of slouches, bro. While Samuels annoyed me with the holding, I watched him holding of DeMarcus Ware more than once. Jansen is a gamer, and a true Hog now, playing like that.
It's easier to lay it on the line for your QB if you know he can win games. Suddenly, they have a guy worth protecting with every last ounce of everything they've got....and they'll do it.

Jansen was a true hero man. Two broken thumbs - YIKES! I've got two broken fingers right now - can't even imagine 50 or 60 plays with monsters coming at me. That dude has more guts than humanly possible! Game ball to Jansen!

Our O-line got out played by the girls, couldn't open up any running lanes or passing zones and worst No pass protection. Ol' man Brunny will be out soon if our O-line does not do a better job.

Dallas played much better D-line and O-line than us, we DID NOT TOUCH Drew B. Dallas' O-line kicked crap out of GW's blitzs.

They picked up everything.

ummm. no. what game were you watching? must have been nyg vs no on the west coast too, because you're speaking out of your ass. we DID NOT blitz last night. with the exception of a hand full of plays, it was mainly a four man pass rush all night. GW played more coverage packages than blitz packages.

Sure but that doesn't change the fact that when we did blitz it always got picked up. In the entire game we never once even came close to hitting Bledsoe.

The Dallas O-line dominated us in pass protection and even opened up a few holes for Jones. They were so far superior to our o-line it was night and day.

Greg Williams hasn't blitzed much in both games so far and has done the exact opposite of what our opponants expected, which is exactly what he wants to do. Wait until a team doesn't expect us to blitz them much...

If we could trade Ramsey for a pass rushing defensive end, maybe we wouldn't have to rely so heavily on the blitz.

Thank you HKhog, nice to have a fan finally back me up on something. GW is still a great coach, his scheme just got picked this game. We stopped the blitz once we realized they were ineffective

I think we just ran out of secondary to bring up for the packages, once Prioleau got hammied.

The D was still great of course!

We certainly look well rounded as our LBs and secondary can really cover OR blitz. Awesome to have that versatility. Best of all, all these guys can really tackle.

Harris really impressed me, he made a lot of nice plays. We may be thin at CB but our top three guys are all very impressive - and then there's Jimoh

I think its time we mix up the snap count a little bit. Gibbs is known for running the same count play after play, but it gives the defense a tremedous advantage. Running a hard count every once in awhile couldn't hurt, right? 3, 40, 3, 40 hut-hut

It would be nice, but it leads to too many penalties. The boys need to get more acclimated to each other first.

Another thing we should remember is that whenever we play Dallas they always make us look worst then we really are. I am somewhat concerned but at least we won.

Our offensive line struggled against a very, very good Dallas defensive line.

But, as Sam Huff said in the postgame interviews, when Brunell needed the time most, they gave it to him. And that's why this conversation is much less important right now than if we had lost.

The Skins offensive line did struggle early on--and clearly this line's strength is run blocking, not pass blocking. The good news is that there were a TON of mental mistakes. Samuels, in particular, when he gets to the outside, seems a little confused. But these are all coachable mistakes. Gibbs and Buges will break it all down in film. There were a bunch of plays where you could see one player out of position, one player missing an assignment, and it resulted in a sack or a tackle for no gain. This team is only just starting to buy into the philosophy. Once they begin to execute what the coaches tell them to do, the offense will NOT be a problem. But it has to be everyone, like a well-oiled machine--everyone on the line has to do his job. It's not like they're being physically manhandled. We usually have four guys blowing the defense off the line and the fifth misses his man completely. It's all about concentration and execution with these guys.

It was a good win, yes. But just wait. It was nothing. That was nothing compared with what's to come.

Good post wb, and I agree. I saw just that type of execution in the Pittsburgh preseason game, and I know the players recognized how well it worked. They have struggled to do it like that again in these last two games. But it will come, and more regularly too. It will be great to watch.
