Irvin admitted last week that he became emotionally distraught when falling short of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year. Irvin and former New York Giants linebacker Harry Carson were among the six finalists but then snubbed in favor of Dan Marino, Steve Young, Fritz Pollard and Bennie Friedman.
"It was an emotional rollercoaster," said Irvin, a Fort Lauderdale native who was in his first year of eligibility after a 12-year NFL career with Dallas. "I was never as drained as I was that night. I went home and cried myself to sleep, but I felt a little better the next day."
