I was looking at Portis' numbers from the Bears game....

and his 21 carries for 121 yards were good. He averaged about 5.76 yards per carry, sure he struggled a bit at the beginning of the game, but he made up for it. I think he will past Stephen Davis' franchise rushing record and get 1600 yards atleast, so he has 6000 career rushing yards in 4 years.

i like the one two punch...

also...portis said thathe got a lil bit hurt on the first play, which is why he was a bit slow at the start.

Portis looked awesome. He was bowling people over. He looked really good running between the tackles, his added strength has just given him a completely new dimension to his game. As the game went on it became clear that he just couldn't be brought down on the first hit, IMO he actually looked a lot more like a power runner than Betts did. Betts certainly helped out at the beginning when Portis was banged up though. I am excited.

Those two guys are going to be a great one two if the OL continues to be the surprise it has been so far. If Ramsey had stayed in, we would have seen an awesome second half.

Not a surprise to most of us ;-)

What surprised me was the fact that watching the game on TV I couldn't tell if Betts or Portis was carrying the ball unless I saw their numbers (Portis also lines up further back in the backfield). Before, Portis was so much more slender than Betts but now he looks just as beefy. They have the same body-type now, it's just amazing. Portis still looks just as fast but every time I have seen him carry the ball this preseason and in the game I am just blown away by the power he has shown. He is absolutely going to dominate.

I like the sound of that.

Hopefully he hasn't lost any of his speed and acceleration.

he sure didn't look like he lost any speed/acceleration. i kept thinking "dang, he's got nowhere to go" and then POOF! he darts forward for 8 yards.

Good. I wish I could have seen the game and no one is showing any real highlights from the game.

Portis has bulked up and still hasnt lost a step. He is kind of reminding me of a fast version of Jamal Lewis. If we beat Dallas on MNF i think we got a 90% chance of making the playoffs. But this game will be very important for us.

Well as long as Portis keeps running the ball well and gets some touchdowns against Dallas, we will do fine.

I like the shared backfield duties of Portis and Betts. So far, so good.

Did anyone else notice Portis' fumble at the end of one of his runs? He recovered it himself, but I hope it doesn't become an issue.

The switching up of backs should keep his legs (for running) and his arms (for holding onto the ball) fresh. I'd hate for him to revert to his fumbling ways of last year.

jf has a thread somewhere in here re: breaks going the skins' way. you can add portis' fumble bouncing quickly back into his hands to that list.

I'd like to see us run some out of the shotgun. Moose kept mentioning that Portis' 7 yard alignment was giving away the run. Hopefully we're saving this for Monday night.

You have to love it when Betts comes in and we run that draw play. Normally the backup RB signals pass or a symbolic (but uneffective) run. . .but not with Betts. He must have gotten over 20 yards on just a handful of draw plays alone (including at least one 10 yard play).

This way, we won't have to hand Portis the ball 30 times just to get 150+ yards of rushing. Portis stays a bit more fresh, Betts helps wear down the D. . .and then in the fourth quarter we get to watch those runs which get 5-10 yard chunks of the field at a time.

My favorite series of the game (well, ok, second favorite after the 3 false starts by the Bears) was the one that went:

QB sneak on 3rd down (that was a little weird actually, for how far it was)
QB sneak on 4th down
Portis 10-yard run on 1st down
Betts 10-yard run on 1st down

Once again Portis proves to all the doubters early that the Skins season success is COMPLETELY reliant on Portis carrying the load. He had some big runs late in the 3rd and 4th that had to really take some of the wind out of Chicago's D

Yeah, Joe trusted "Scott" to get the job done, and he delivered.

Well, no, he didn't, that's why there was that 4th down play. That crazy Scott, always sneaking around.
