Five teams that'll be just awful

1. 49ers — The team was ready to make the first overall pick in this year's draft, Alex Smith, its starting quarterback. That is, until the guy who the 49ers were looking to replace clearly outplayed Smith in the preseason. Now, Smith will have to learn from the sidelines, which isn't an ideal place for a team clearly in rebuilding mode. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are NFL teams. There's a long way to go to repair this once-proud franchise.


2. Dolphins — Given the opportunity to select the best quarterback in the draft besides Alex Smith, Miami opted to pick a running back. With Ricky Williams returning from his bizarre off-season of finding himself (smoking cannabis) and holistic healing, the Dolphins now seem to have an embarrassment of riches at running back. Well, that'll only be the case when Williams is done serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. When Williams comes back, the Dolphins could be 0-4. This is because of the team's complete lack of quality at the quarterback position. Miami continues to struggle to fill that spot with anybody good since the retirement of Dan Marino.


3. Browns — Much of this team's hope vanished when Kellen Winslow went joy-riding on a motorcycle. Romeo Crennel is on board as the new head coach, but it's going to take some time for him to eliminate the garbage that contributed to this team's 4-12 debacle of a year ago. In reality, the Browns are essentially starting over for the third time in the team's new seven-year history. That's a lot of transition, and Browns fans are crossing their fingers hoping that Crennel and Cleveland is the combination that will finally work out.


4. Titans — The days of Tennessee-as-playoff regular are long over. Steve McNair is still chucking passes, but this team has little hope in the loaded AFC South. Unfortunately, the glory days of 1999-2003 have caught up to the Titans, and the team gave into its salary cap woes and came to terms with the league's money management system. This team has clearly entered the dreaded "rebuilding" mode.


"5. Redskins — The NFL Joe Gibbs returned to last season is very different from the NFL he left after the 1992 season. Safety Sean Taylor couldn't stay out of trouble and linebacker Lavar Arrington can't stay healthy. Those two are Washington's best players. Elsewhere, Redskins fans long for a day when starting quarterback Patrick Ramsey is carrying a clipboard."

What a bunch of crap. Do they not relize our O line is back and healthy. Lavar is back, our D will still be dominant force it was last year. The only thing that worries me is Ramsey's play. The "experts" will be eating their words.

The writer is a complete a-hole, more snap analysis from an expert who knows less about football than half the people on these boards. I assume Marcus Washington and Clinton Portis are names he's never encountered.

What about Cornelius Griffin and Shawn Springs? Last I heard Griffin won the award for our best defensive player. Taylor's hearing has been postponed to after the season and Lavar looks great.

Just read the rest of the piece and it is unbelievably uninformed. For example, Mike McMahon is the backup in Philly, not Koy Detmer. Also, Tomlinson was banged up last year and it didn't stop the Chargers from winning.

What a disgraceful article. The "media" never ceases to amaze me.

Unfortunately until this team produces on the field how can anyone disagree? Last year this team got poor QB play and poor coaching. Hopefully both will impreove.

Hmmm...guess our Pro Bowl player Marcus Washington and our shoulda been Pro Bowl player Cornelius Griffin got traded....but then again they aren't shooting anyone or using the media to whine about their contracts so maybe they just plum forgot they were around.

maybe on defense, but the offensive coaching was terrible last year. even through your burgundy colored glasses you have to admit as much. according to portis the other team was calling out the plays b/f they were run - not exactly an offensive juggernaut.

with the o-line healthy, the defense can listen in the huddle while ramsey calls the play, they'll still get run over.

Taylor may not have stayed out of trouble, but I saw no effect on his onfield performance once he put on the B&G.
Lavar wasn't healthy last year that part is true. If he was one of our best players last year, what should we expect from him now that he is healthy? As far as fans wanting the starting QB to carry a clipboard well that's just WRONG. We have always left the clipboard carrying to the #3 guy

I'll admit to the B&G colored glasses, but I still think the coaching was fine last year. Just because it took the players a year (or us to get the players) to be able to implement the strategy and technique, does not mean that the coaching was sub-par. I suppose the play calling might have been a little more effective, but that's not coaching per se.

Coach Gibbs went to school last season and it showed in his play calling but he played with the hand he was dealt. That hand has changed this off season. The O-line is much improved and we now have receivers that can get separation. He is also employing some new schemes to accomodate CP.

I believe that the coach would grade himself as maybe a C last season and some would say that's being generous. I think the offense will get him a "B" this year and with our defense that's good enough.

HOw can this clown actually think the skins will be worse off this year with a super bowl worthy coach

, where as the cleveland browns are coming off a losing season, WITH A New head coach, and have made nearly no substantial off season moves.

But they are perfectly willing to call a Hall of Fame coach who clearly has a plan, and an intact O-line, the next thing to incompetent? You don't think having that shoved in their face at the end of this season will hurt their (already microscopic) rep?

I just hope this team does what we think it can do mainly because it will be great to watch but I am almost hoping to be able to rub it in all these guys faces. You know I'm going to be writing a lot of e-mails if we have a successful season.

That's bass akwards. It's not their job to tell us what already happened, but what is likely to happen this year. So, if they wait until we already did it, it's no longer a prediction!

i am sick of hearing this crap. everyone needs to shut up with this crap. what have the cowboys done on the field? NOTHING. the cowboys were 6-10 last year, just like us. but the media can't stop giving them the reach-around.

and it's one thing to say we won't be a playoff team, but say that we will be HORRIBLE? amongst the 5 worst teams in the league??? that is so completely willfully ignorant it is criminal. this crap is starting to really disgust me and i can't wait for the season to get rolling so we can spank some teams and shove it in the media's face.

What you all are forgetting is the Cowpukes are "America's Team" (I'm being sarcastic)! When there is a flash of light for Dallas the media just jumps all over them and claim that they are the god sent team of the year. They are so excited b/c their drafted D-End got a fumble, interception, and a sack against the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string offense. They think that they are going to be the best defensive team in the league. Well I will battle anyone around to say that Washington is going to be a whole hell of a lot better than they are this year. Just like last year. They will only score 17 on us b/c our offense turns it over.

Jump on the bandwagon media. Its really a trojan horse painted Burgandy and Gold underneath and its going to crash on you. I'm ready for us to prove people wrong.
