After 18 years, I'm still proud to be a Coastie.

In the past week the men and women of the United States Coast Guard have completed over 7,000 air rescues. An average year at Airstation New Orleans is about 450 search and rescue cases. You would have know idea how proud my fellow shipmates make me feel. They are working around the clock 24-7 and I bet you couldn't get a single one of them to quit what they are doing. This is what we live for, "Saving Lives". The worst thing about the whole situation is that they have lost everything, just like everybody else in New Orleans. They won't stop until every man, woman, and child have been rescued from this horrible situation. You would have no idea the things that they are going through and seeing day in and day out. My heart goes out to every last shipmate that is risking their lives and putting their personal life and family on hold. My prayers go out to them and their families.

Bravo Zulu shipmate. Us Navy folks are proud of you guys. I'm hoping to get over there soon and do my part...it's time to roll the sleeves up and get dirty.

The Navy and Air Force have thanked you and your brethren, so let me extend thanks from the (former) Marines.
The Coast Guard is often over looked in the grand scheme of the military, but you guys play a vital role in protecting this country, and I am glad that you guys are getting a little exposure.
Your shipmates are doing excellent work over there in the face of great adversity. Thank you for your service.

Thank you so much for your efforts. As a native New Orleanian I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see all of the efforts put forth by all the uniformed men and women in New Orleans.

Mixed with the many things that went badly wrong in New Orleans, it seems to me that the USCG and USN did fine things, of which they and this country should be proud.
