Two words:

Practice Squad.

it's not like he got a lot of exposure in the preseason.

I tried to tell anyone who'd listen that although his story was great and he has the physical attributes that one would look for, he wasn't much of a football player. You rolled the dice and lost, no big deal unless the next mortgage payment is sitting on the table. It isn't in this case. No harm, no foul. Campbell on the other hand.........

I was under the impression that practice squad players aren't protected from being picked up by other teams. IS that true?

I'm amazed that people are so surprised by the release of McCune and Keasey making the team?? You base this on what? A Physique? Keasey has a motor that doesn't quit. During mini-camp the LB's were doing some hitting on the sled during the drill Dale Lindsay singled out Keasey to come and show the LB (all of them vets included) how to hit the sled. He played very well on ST and I believe that's why he not McCune made the squad. Did you read any of the training camp reports? Boss talked about this guy as well.

We heard great things would come from McCune after the draft based on his background and physique, at the same time time We heard close to nothing about Keasey. It's pretty clear one wanted to be a NFL linebacker more than the other.

Asked about McCune, Gibbs said the team had a "strategy" in place with the former Louisville linebacker, signaling that the team may want to bring him back on the eight-member practice squad.

Thats from http://www.redskins.com

So he'll be back sooner or later. Im glad to see that, I think he'll be a beast.

I love McCune's story but he still has to EARN his spot against others. I am sure he will be called to prove himself. Be patient.

BossHog wrote:Zak Keasey - whether it is practice squad or actual roster, this guy has a motor that won't stop and he seems like he has the heart to match. We have a lot of bodies at LB but he's going to be a difficult cut. He's a little under-sized but he's really quick. He and Robert Royal matched up last week (I think there's a pic in the galleries) and they were going at it tooth and nail. Good stuff.

Same thread...

2. How is McCune coming along? (I am admittedly biased in his favour and love his story).

BossHog wrote:The fans don't really get to see much of the defense to be honest with you... they practice on the far field and can't really be observed except in the 7-on-7's and 11-on-11's. I haven't seen anything too spectacular from him yet... except when he walks by you I knoweverybody loves to gawk at the guy but we're stacked at LB and I'm not as convinced as everyone else is that this guy is a shoo-in... like all rookies... he'll need to make a mark on special teams to crack the roster as I think Holdman and Marshall are still the front-runners for the job. Hopefully this week's practices may permit a better look at the defense. No doubt about his sheer awesome physicality though... I can't even imagine how many hours a day the guy spends in the weight room

I'm glad they put him on the practice squad. Didn't want to lose him this early.
