No, but all these losing seasons sure do.

They couldn't beat out the veteran linebackers that were picked up or returned from injury. We were stacked at LB and looking for someone to play the middle.

Exactly. Cvillehog is right on as well with his analysis but I think we have better coaching in place now too.

I think that it also shows that we did a good job picking up a couple undrafted FAs in Keasey and Groom (though how many punters get drafted - still a good pick-up, the kid has impressed me).

Clemons has developed nicely as he now graduates from the Practice Squad. Hopefully, if McCune and Newberry are resigned they can also develop into nice players.

Finally, I think we clearly drafted very well in the 7th round picking up Nemo.

You would like for all of your draft picks to become superstars but that isn't always going to happen. At least we didn't draft Clarett!

I'm thinking McCune was drafted largely for his potential... I have heard all along that he still needs a lot of football work, but they were so impressed with his pure athleticism and work ethic that they felt they needed to take a strong look. I agree with the others who think he will be picked up on the practice squad, where they can continue to develop him for next year...

McCune will definitely get a spot on the practice squad. As far as the draft, its always a crap shoot. If you look through the list of cuts by team, I'm sure you'll find at least one player who was drafted got cut by every team. Getting drafted is not a guaranteed roster spot (unless its in the first or second round).

Im irritated at the release of our draft picks.

We draft for the future, so that we'll have guys in place to take over when a Lavar, or a Clinton has to leave. We draft so that we dont have to pickup someone elese used player who is overpriced and past his prime like we've been doing for so many years.

Everyone was thrown for a loop with this draft. We drafted so many of the same position and ignored positions like DE. We've released two LB's, we could have drafted a DE with some potential for all that.

Hindsight is 20/20....so..

The point of the draft is to select players to evaluate.

You have to understand that being drafted does not mean your status on the roster is a given.

The Redskins obviously cut who they think would be projects and kept the picks that they felt had the best chance to contribute.

Some teams kept all of their current draft picks. One could argue that they drafted well while others could argue it is because their rosters were so depleted of talent that anyone could stick. It all depends on each team's/player's particular circumstance.

I'm going with Jake on this one. I think this is a good thing. Perhaps it means that our ability to evaluate talent has gotten better. We are actually looking to see who fits into our system and team and those who don't we will not just keep for the sake of having had a "good draft"!

Couldn't it also be said that our evaluation of talent during the draft is a bit to be deserved? I know that nobody can predict how a player will turn out.

I dont mean to sound like Im harping on the team but Id like to see some progress towards the long term future also. I dont want things to completely fall apart in a few years.

This entire offseason, the coaching staff and those who watched training camp closely have constantly said that we have a lot of depth. That means we had some hard battles and someone's going to lose out. I think this is a case of some guys going out, wanting it more and impressing the coaches. Greg Williams is a hell of a coach and can evaluate talent. McCune and others just flat out got beat out by some unexpected players.

1974 is right. I guess the bottom line is that we cannot keep everyone. And Chris while they can try to predict how someone will fit in with our schemes and team but there is no guarentee that it will work out. In McCune's case he didn't actually do poorly someone just did better. To make a team being a low round pick you have to get lucky and have no competition or you have to do something to stand out amongst the crowd. He didn't have either luxury really.

Can't we convert some Some LB to DE, I liked when Lavar Played End a few times, probably scared the pants off some linemen.

Don't forget that, at the time of the draft, we had a few injuries that have since worked themselves out.

Of course we're not drafting well. Look at the other teams in the league.

They are all (philthy, carolina, Ne, Pitt) built through draft picks.

Gibbs has brought in youg guys to grow with the team some through the draft some by other means...

Current Redskins that weren’t even in the league last off-season (Gibbs wasn’t in the league at that time either)

If the number 1 or number 2 picks were DOA, then it's a failed draft. Rogers and Campbell look like they will turn out well. So that's a good draft.
