Wow, Joe Gibbs was angry!!!

Don't know if you guys heard Gibbs' interview after the game but I thought he was about to bite Sonny's head off. Sonny just said something like "another tough game coach" and Gibbs shot back, "No, well in this league you cannot make stupid turnovers like that!!!" It took everyone aback, I have never heard him sound that angry.
Well, he said we did a lot of good things but kept on saying you can't make those kinds of turnovers and something had to be done. I don't know but it seemed like he was REALLY down on Ramsey! Ouch! I am still going to back the Ram because even though I didn't watch the game it sounded like he made a few nice throws but as Charles Mann said on the two picks he threw the ball to wide-open Bengals. I just wonder with the amount of time that Brunell played and his good performance if Ramsey's job is already on the line.

I heard that same tone in Gibbs' voice. He was furious about the turnovers. Steaming mad.
I expect Joe will throw some flames over Ramsey (INT's), Parsons (if he was the one who tried and failed to scoop up the fumble on the KO), and Broughton (last play, killed the chance to tie...oooo, making the worst mistake at the most obvious time), among others.

Gibbs mentioned that Brunnell made some throws that could only be made by steaming the ball. He sounded positive about Brunnell, dissapointed in Ramsey.

Gibbs angry, never heard him like that.
He hates to lose, and he triple-hates to lose when players make mistakes.
He's been know to throw a chair threw the blackboard at half-time when he wanted to wake up the team. Of course, he knew those guys would respond. That's why Don Warren and Grimm and Bostic and Jaccoby and Mann and the rest lasted so long.

Now Charles Mann is piling it on:
Q: Who should start opening day?
A: "No question Mark Brunell!" Said he took control of the line of scrimage, looked calm in the pocket and made smart accurate throws... then said Ramsey was exactly the opposite.
But... he said Gibbs will stick by Ramsey a little longer. If he was the coach he would start Brunell but he said he admires how Gibbs sticks by his guys. Interesting, I wonder what is going to happen.

Good! He has every right to be and I am sure he will get his point across quite effectively with the team. Kick ass Joe!

I think gibbs is getting a little frusrated and can't say that I blame him.Ramsey has got to make better judgment.I watched the game and the pick to the bengal in the end zone was awful, should have never been thrown. On the other hand Ramsey hit some good deep routes.Ramsey flaws are obvious.Ramsey needs to make better judgment calls,Ramsey needs to work on throwing when on the move, very unaccurate when pressure applied and can't get his feet set good. The corner post routes seem to be hard for Ramsey to connect on,he always seems to over throw or under throw on them.I know every one thinks brunnell is playing better but he has not seen the same pressure from the second string defense.Im not sold on brunell being any better than ramsey at this point.I think gibbs will blow of the steam this week and give ramsey another chance to start in the next game, but if rams judgment doesn't get better then we could be seeing brunnell soon.

And Charles Mann is an expert. He made many a QB look nervous in the pocket, and make stupid inaccurate throws...(Charles Mann for HOF!)
Ah, just a touch of nostalgia hearing Mann's voice...and Sonny's comment that the CB blitz was his favorite play...he would look at his WR and pop a pass to him. That would be to Bobby Mitchell or Charley Taylor, the best pair of WR's ever...especially, since they were both former star running backs, especially after the catch with room to run.
Oh, just the thought that Ramsey could think and throw as quickly as Sonny.

That might be the maddest I have EVER heard Joe Gibbs tonight. Me and my cousin couldn't believe when we heard him. Tough week of practice awaits the Skins this week...

I watched the highlights on NFL Live and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought. The two ints were terrible and you can never make those mistakes but the Thrash TD was a great play by Ramsey running to his left and then throwing a strike across his body and the pass to Patten on the sideline was a fantastic throw. What a pretty ball that was especially after seeing Ramsey struggle so much in the past throwing down the sidelines.
Ramsey's mistakes were unforgivable but I think he still showed he can play if he just sets his feet and throws. On both of the ints he was way off balance.
It's funny because even though he is far from a mobile QB the more I see him play, the more I feel like he plays so much better when he rolls out of the pocket. When he is on the move he steps into his throws and I think he makes better decisions too. When he stands in the pocket though he seems so indecisive and gets happy feet. It's like he stands there and he's going, "where do I throw it, where do I throw it, where do I throw it..." instead of getting into a rhythm and just reacting to what he sees instead of forcing things.
He just needs to calm down and get into the flow. I don't know if he will do that but I hope he can.

Can you really teach a fourth year quarterback how to settle down in the pocket. I mean set your feet and throw are traits that take time to learn.
Its kind of like some kids are really really smart, but they are not great test takers...they get anxious and nervous.
Ramsey has the best arm of the bunch, but he has the brains of a pelican. The first INT reminded me of the interception that he threw at the end of the Philly game last year.
He was doing some good things and then does the dumbest thing you can do...forces a bad pass in the redzone for a pick. That shows lack of improvement....I like Ramsey, but has trouble putting it all together.
He is jumping around in the pocket and patting the ball like his feet are itching. It works sometime and sometimes it doesnt. I saw Joe Gibbs throw his headset after the Nemo fumble. He was pissed, and he should be. Ramsey better get it together. Gibbs will stick with him, but if he keeps turning the ball over, he will have a hard time remaining in Gibb's good graces.

Its going to be interesting if Ramsey is still playing like this till the end of the preseason and that Brunell is playing like he did in Jacksonville before he got injured.
It was nice to see Brunell go back with ease, read the coverage, and move out of the pocket without taking his eyes off the coverage. He looked very confident. To me the game is going to fast for Ramsey and a lot slower for Brunell.
Of course going against 2nd and 3rd stringers doesn't hurt either in Brunells case.
I hate QB controversies

In answer to the point:

It is tough when you got quite shell-shocked after a number of injuries and beatings under Steve Spurrier "kill-the-QB" offense.
Patrick needs time to settle and I have no doubt that he will be fine by openning day. Joe will give him time and stick by him but nowhere as long as he did with Brunell last year. It is a sink or swim season for Patrick.
I am on Patrick's side. No doubt about it.

Gibbs needs to do what Frank Broyles did for two decades at Arkansas, including the time he was there. Don't have to discipline them... Get someone to be bad cop. I forget his name at the moment, but he was MEAN. Broyles was harsh, but.. man. He used to get you so tired that you'd pas sout and he'd drag you to the shower, get you back up, and throw you outside to continue practicing.
Basically, Gibbs, if he isn't going to bust these guy's balls himself, get someone who WILL. I guarantee if those guys had the fear of God in them of hard practices or being cut, they would not only cut down on the turnovers, they'd not be getting so many penalties.
I would like to see this team go back to the old day disciopline for them in pre-NFL... Up downs.
Hopefully, I don't have to tell you all what up downs are.

Patrick Ramsey is just plain horrible. It is actually getting to the point where his "defenders" are left with nothing more than to muddy the waters besides pull up his worthless statistics. His defenders have glaringly reached the denial stage.
2 interceptions. Horrible decisions. The exact same bunk as last year. He alone will run this team into the ground and waste another brilliant year by the defense.
The key question that should be asked of Gibbs is how many games is he going to waste before he ships Ramsey somewhere else.

I think Gibbs is tired of the mental mistakes all around. Drive killing penalty's along with the turnovers will tick him off faster than anything. I think by the end of this week some players will learn the hard way not to lose concentration.

That used to be the common mark of a Gibbs team: fewest possible mental mistakes. Good take-away / give-away ratio.
At least we've had fewer illegal formations and illegal motion penalties, although Gibbs doesn't appear to have thrown the usual multiple shifts into these pre-season games.

can't believe this is actually a thread, Ramsey is and should and will be the starter opening day. Is this thread serious? Come on, it's a joke right!! You people, the same ones who booed Brunell less than a year ago, the same people who chanted "We want Ram-see!" until you finally got him, now you want Gibbs's proclaimed starter wearing a headset again? Among the many misguided, ill-conceived thoughts surrounding Gibbs's football team: Ramsey better be good early. Or else. The idea being, Brunell could take over in Week 2, Auburn rookie Jason Campbell in Week 8 and Ramsey again in Week 11. Great. By December, every Washington quarterback's psyche will be destroyed. What symmetry that would be, the same chaotic, instant-gratification strategy that landed Washington a slew of big-name, small-time free agents and a litany of egocentric, overpaid coaches. Look, Ramsey may not be heading to the Pro Bowl this season. He may not be markedly better than his veteran backup and good friend, Brunell. But give the kid a shot, a real shot -- not a few meaningless preseason possessions and maybe the season opener. Let him be. For just two straight possessions.

Ramsey has had his chances. Multiple ones. More than Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Akili Smith, etc.... EVER got.
And you people want to waste....what is it....5,6,7, or more games until you realize what a joke he is?
Might as well start planning for 2006 right now. But I'm sure the Ramsey-ites will have a whole new slew of excuses for him by then.
